Work Arrangement:
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office four times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.
The Role:
The Paint Process Engineer will execute new product program launches, perform manufacturing planning studies, develop process layouts, identify machinery & equipment requirements, execute equipment install & commissioning projects, virtual vehicle assessments for paint manufacturing requirements for global product programs, analyze & report paint warranty data. This role requires working with Global stakeholders (Onsite/Offshore) to execute product and non-product programs.
What You’ll Do
-
Execute green field and brown field facility execution projects from initiation to closure for paint shops.

Execute paint shop process improvements, defect troubleshooting, FTQ & equipment uptime improvement.

Execute virtual vehicle assessments for product programs to validate Paint Manufacturing Requirements (MRs)

Execute paint warranty analysis & reporting for global paint shops.

Perform manufacturing planning studies, layout planning, facility designs, material releases, benchmarking.

Participate in global technical team meetings and report out regional issues, lessons learnt and project progress updates.

Develop automation for Paint facility CAD workflows using APIs, macros, templates, and rule-based design tools to reduce design cycle time and engineering rework and integrate CAD with PLM/Teamcenter.

Build and maintain Digital twins for product, process, and performance. Establish end-to-end digital thread across PLM - CAD - Simulation - MES systems for complete traceability.

Validate product and process models with real-time data and maintain fidelity throughout product lifecycle.

Build content pipelines from CAD/PLM into XR environments and ensure data security and version control.

Design, implement, and validate vision systems for defect detection, sealer quality, color consistency, and film thickness evaluation.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Chemical / Paint Engineering/ Master's in Chemical or Paint Technology.

5+ years of product launch experience including Paint facility execution, process set up, material management related to paint shop from Automotive OEMs
-
Sound knowledge of automotive paint shop processes, material, equipment, layout development.

Sound knowledge of conducting manufacturing planning studies in paint shops.
-
Good knowledge of paint manufacturing requirements & virtual vehicle assessments.
-
Working knowledge of Fanuc, DURR robot graphic user interface software.
-
Good knowledge of AutoCAD, MS Project, MS Office applications.
-
Having experience in Paint Virtual Commissioning would be an added advantage.

Working knowledge of instruments testing color, appearance and physical properties of paints and plastics like BYK-mac, Wavescan dual etc.

Good knowledge on interpreting Process & Instrumentation diagrams.

Sound understanding of the GVDP, GLP, Quality Chain, DFMEA-PFMEA.

Sound knowledge of Project Management methodologies.

Sound knowledge on Quality Principles and Workplace safety systems.
-
Working knowledge of CAD APIs (NX Open, CATIA CAA, SolidWorks API), CAD standards & GD&T, PLM systems (Teamcenter, Vismockup), Digital thread/twin architecture, XR platforms, CAD→XR pipelines, and Vision systems specific to Paint shop applications would be an added advantage.

Willingness to travel to GM plants worldwide based on business needs (50–70% travel).

Willingness to perform math‑based work during periods without scheduled business travel.

Good Problem solving & analytical skills.

Basic quality tools, Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis, Advance process quality planning.

Basic coding skills on process automation and business intelligence tools (C/C++, Java, VB script, Python, Power BI etc.,)

Basic skills of Simulation tools (STAR-CCM+, Process Simulate, Plant Simulation) and PLC/MES integration, and Machine vision tuning (lighting, optics, camera selection) preferred.
