The Role
As the EGM for the Application Group – Advanced Manufacturing Development & Deployment, you will lead the application, validation, and launch of fastening and inspection solutions from MRL 4–7 across global GM facilities. You will align Scope of Development Work (SODW) with MRL 4–7, manage the transition from development to plant implementation, and ensure solutions are technically robust, operationally ready, and integrated into plant processes, MPS, and program timing. You will lead a cross-functional team of manufacturing, automation, and process engineers, partnering with product engineering, R&D, ARC, technical experts, plants, and suppliers to reduce risk, remove execution barriers, and deliver consistent, high-quality manufacturing outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team aligned with business goals and KPIs.
- Own and maintain SODW for fastening and inspection applications, ensuring alignment with product, process, and plant requirements.
- Lead and support MRL 4–7 gate reviews, driving technical and execution readiness in line with GM standards.
- Serve as PET lead, coordinating cross-functional teams across engineering, plants, and suppliers.
- Develop and validate new plant process use cases, including layouts, simulations, and alignment to SODW.
- Integrate solutions, timing, and resource needs into the MPS process to align application plans with program and plant plans.
- Benchmark off-the-shelf solutions and partner with strategic suppliers on capability, cost, scalability, and roadmaps.
- Coordinate with fastening and inspection subject matter experts to define requirements, review concepts, and validate solutions.
- Define and execute launch strategies from development through plant implementation, including build events and ramp-up.
- Develop and maintain cost, timing, and headcount plans, including resource allocation by site and center.
- Support and influence Design for Automation (DFA) early in the product development cycle.
- Capture, document, and deploy lessons learned from development, launches, and plant operations.
- Communicate strategy, standards, readiness, and launch status to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
- Collaborate with R&D, ARC, Manufacturing Engineering, and Plant Operations to align development with downstream implementation.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of manufacturing experience with a strong focus in manufacturing engineering in assembly or powertrain.
- Demonstrated experience in fastening or inspection systems (for example, torque tools, vision systems).
- Strong communication skills with the ability to simplify complex technical topics for diverse audiences, including senior leadership.
- Proven ability to motivate teams, set clear objectives, and deliver results through innovative thinking and disciplined execution.
Preferred Qualifications
- Proven manufacturing engineering processing knowledge.
- Experience in the automotive industry.
- Experience in launch, supplier management, and strategy execution.
- Experience working in cross-functional global teams and in ambiguous, high-pressure environments.
- Master’s degree or higher in a technical or managerial discipline.
