To achieve our vision of a world with Zero Crashes, Zero Emissions and Zero Congestion, we need people to join us who are passionate about creating safer, better and more sustainable ways for people to get around. This bold vision won’t happen overnight, but just as we transformed how the world moved in the last century, we are committed to transforming how we move today and in the future.
Why work for us
Our culture is focused on building inclusive teams, where differences and unique perspectives are embraced so you can contribute to your fullest potential as you pursue your career. Our locations feature a variety of work environments, including open work spaces and virtual connection platforms to inspire productivity and flexible collaboration. And we are proud to support employee volunteer interests and make it a priority to join together in efforts that give back to our communities.
The Role
General Motors is undergoing a major transformation, both in how we operate and in how we will influence the future of transportation. Our Testing Infrastructure Team (A member of the Physical and Virtual Test Platforms organization) is on the forefront of this work, emboldening our culture by seeking out determined, innovative individuals who will join our team to help move us forward and achieve our mission.
We are currently seeking experienced and motivated candidates for the role of Senior Component HIL Simulation and Integration Engineer to support our HIL Agile Release Train (HIL ART). Role is located at the Milford Proving Grounds Campus. This role is responsible for creating hardware in the loop environments to enable development, verification and validation of embedded controllers and calibrations for battery, hybrid, electrification, engine, transmission, chassis, and intelligent brake controls. As our vehicle technology changes, our testing platforms must evolve. Component based HIL environments are shifting to include multiple controllers that span multiple domains. These new benches (Multi Domain HIL benches) support core vehicle features with all necessary hardware controllers in the loop. Currently, MDB bench planning is centered around electric propulsion including HIL support for battery controllers and power inverter module controllers.
Key Responsibilities
The Senior HIL Engineer plays a critical role in the HIL ART with a focus on the development and deployment of the test environments described above. You will work with our global engineering teams to understand testing environment requirements and translate those needs into test environments that you will develop, deploy and maintain. The ART supports multiple types of testing environments (such as HIL, SIL, Virtual HIL, etc) through scrum teams focused on a specific type of control system, and each scrum team member focuses on the specific activities that best align with their experience, capabilities and personal development objectives. The Senior HIL position requires individuals with a passion applying the latest technological solutions for evaluation of software and hardware performance to a wide variety of products and user needs and delivery schedules. A balance of technical and project leadership skills and the ability to think outside the box to find simple yet exciting solutions is paramount. You will gain the required knowledge to support satisfying multiple controller needs, networking with specialists in multiple domains to gain and apply that knowledge.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Work closely with software development, calibration and validation stakeholders to identify solutions to customer needs.
- Engage with cross functional team members (within and outside of the immediate agile scrum team) to coordinate on-time delivery to meet requirements.
- Create and maintain simulation models (such as Plant, sensors and actuators, serial data communication and controller models) for creating xiL Test Environments.
- Evaluate, parametrize, and tune the test environment based on system requirements and calibrations.
- Close partnership with test environment users to root cause and address unexpected test results and resolve issues encountered during test execution.
- Provide technical support for test environment user activities.
- Plan, communicate, and coordinate test environment strategy and model/hardware rollout to support applications and features requested by user community as needed.
- Assist initiatives to benchmark and adopt next-generation simulation technology and tools.
- Perform test environment correlation activities based on experimental data.
- Support HIL bench and controller testing (including automated tools)
- Create, maintain, and improve standard architectures.
- Work closely with sources of models and equipment to make sure that common models and other simulation assets are shared between test environment domains and architectures.
- Lead a small group of team members and work with test environment customers, technical leaders and management as necessary to support and execute program imperatives.
