Our Mission:
At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale

The Role:

As a part of this transformation, General Motors is investing significantly in Virtualization and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) technologies to enable early software quality in the vehicle development process.

General Motors is seeking experienced and motivated candidates for the role of “ Senior Software Engineer - Virtualization and SIL Integration” to support development of virtual test environments in the Software-in-the-loop Agile Release Train (SIL ART). This role will support development of Level 3 vECUs, CoSim environments, and SIL processes for creating virtual test environments for various conventional (Gas/Disel ICE) and hybrid (HEV/PHEV) propulsion systems.

This role is blend of Scrum Manager and CoSim Development Lead responsibilities. It requires technical leadership as well as hands-on SIL integration responsibilities. You will work with partners, end-user  and stakeholders across the company to deliver high-quality simulation test environments at various software and calibration development milestones. This position requires an individual with a passion for modeling and simulation of embedded and physical systems with in-depth knowledge of propulsion systems integration and demonstrated capability for managing a wide variety of technical and customer needs.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

Create or utilize existing virtual controller models to integrate be used across different virtual simulations.

  • Scrum Manager Responsibilities:

    • Lead agile execution for the CPOWERSIM scrum, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily standups, reviews, retrospectives, and follow-through on committed work.

    • Maintain backlog health, story readiness, cross-team dependency tracking, and escalation of blockers affecting delivery commitments across SIL ART.

    • Coordinate work intake and scope alignment for new requests, releases, and updates across the scrum’s virtual asset and CoSim portfolio.

    • Support Need intake and triage in alignment with SIL ART processes, where work is routed to the Scrum Manager and CoSim Dev Lead and reviewed through the ART front-door flow.

    • Partner closely with ART managers, system architects, system engineers, software stakeholders, calibration stakeholders, and adjacent teams to align delivery scope, priorities, and timing.

    • Ensure the co-simulation environments are delivered with high-quality and on-time delivery.

    • Provide clear execution visibility on risks, milestones, release status, and issue resolution for the scrum’s products and commitments.

  • CoSim Dev Lead Responsibilities:

    • Lead the development and integration of SIL co-simulation components to satisfy end-user testing and development requirements.

    • Provide technical leadership for development of Level-3 virtual ECU and CoSim package delivery in the propulsion torque-controls space. Guide virtual ECU creation and maintenance HWIO/RTOS/Comms quality gating and review dashboards daily.

    • Participate in the CoSim “Quad” meeting with the System Integration Architect, Product/System stakeholders, and calibration leads to identify SimBOM and virtual assets required to support SDV 2.0 TFRP testing requirements.

    • Define requirements, evaluate gaps, and request needed simulation assets from partners across the enterprise and work with platform PMO to identify timing risks for deliverables.

    • Guide technical planning and scope definition for CoSim package content, including virtual ECUs, plant physics models, sensors and actuators, and VIP/SDV interfaces.

    • Create and maintain detailed documents for each release. Provide technical support to end-users for released SIL co-simulations and assist with user testing and troubleshooting.

    • Lead debugging and resolution of systemic virtual platform testing and integration issues that impact quality or release readiness.  Drive technical reviews, prioritize defect closure, and ensure robust engineering decisions for model fidelity, integration approaches, and release content.

    • Mentor engineers across the scrum, review technical work products, and promote disciplined execution, automation, and quality. Review simulations, user testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution.

    • Support deployment of SIL co-simulations for both local release and automation testing on cloud computing infrastructure.

What You'll Need (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Sciences, Electronics & Communications, Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering disciplines.

  • 5+ years of embedded software development experience in automotive or allied industries.

  • 3+ years of virtualization, hardware- or software-in-the-loop co-simulation integration experience in any automotive integration or performance domains.

  • 2+ years coordinating agile development by leading a technical scrum, feature team, or integration team.

  • 2+ years of experience DevOps and CI/CD practices and tooling for version control (Gerrit, GitHub, etc.), build automation (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.), binary release management (Artifactory, Amazon S3, etc.), and dashboard reporting (PowerBI, Databricks, etc.)

  • Proficiency in Embedded C software development toolchain including GNU compiler(gcc)/debugger(gdb), Eclipse or VS Code IDEs and Python scripting for automation.

  • In-depth understanding of automotive software standards and communication protocols such as AUTOSAR, CAN, LIN, SPI and automotive ethernet.

  • Familiarity with software-defined vehicles architecture and topology, associated networking technologies along with measurement and calibration tool chains such as ETAS MDA and INCA.

  • Strong familiarity with co-simulation standards such as Modelica FMI and SSP.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electronics & Communications, Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering discipline.

  • 2+ years of experience with modeling electric or hybrid propulsion systems models with a focus on torque controls.

  • Experience with managing agile development using work management tools such as JIRA, JIRA align or Confluence.

  • Experience with development and delivery of high-quality SIL co-simulation test environments, virtual ECU integration, serial data modeling, rest-bus modeling, sensor/actuator modeling for ICE and/or Hybrid Propulsion applications

  • Familiarity with dynamical and mechatronics systems modeling or simulation tools such as Matlab, Simulink, Simscape, GT-POWER, Amesim, CarSim, etc.
