The Mechanical Design & Analysis Engineer (MDAE) - Controller leads the development of the electronic controller packaging requirements and mechanical design of the electronic control module. The MDAE provides technical guidance to the electronic controller supplier for thermal and mechanical design, as well as the validation test plan and flow to ensure alignment with the controller environmental and durability requirements. The MDAE also works with the electronic controller supplier and GM Supplier Quality team to validate electronic controller manufacturing processes and equipment changes.

Key Responsibilities

• Define electronic controller size, shape and orientation as well as location possibilities for vehicle platforms and support CIT as needed.
• Review and support bracket design for installation into the vehicle
• Review and support controller fastener development for controller to bracket installation
• Use modeling tools to define controller thermal requirements.
• Support GMW3172 community as Mechatronics SME.
• Define controller package requirements in controller statement of requirements
• Review and release controller math data.
• Review and release controller outline drawing.
• Approve and support supplier mechanical analysis and drive issue resolution with thermal design.
• Review and approve controller validation test plans and results with suppliers and GM DRE.
• Troubleshoot/root cause validation failures and develop solution(s) with the GM and supplier teams.
• Review and approve supplier manufacturing processes and line equipment.
• Approve controller connector selection.
• Review and approve connector validation test results.
• Review and approve shipping and handling requirements for the controller.
• PRTS resolution support

Required Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or qualified experience in the field of electronic controller development
• Hands on electronic controller experience
• GD&T, CAD software
• Validation
• Minimum 2+ years of automotive experience
• Demonstrated proficiency comprehending Electronics design
• High level knowledge of electronics hardware verification/validation processes
• Understanding of engineering theory and principles of operation of mechanical/electrical mechanisms
• High level of analytical ability where problems are unusual and difficult
• High level of oral and written communication skills

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Master's degree in one of the following areas: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering
• ECU
• Calibration
• Minimum 5+ years of electronic controller experience
• Experience with customer interface technologies
• DFSS Blackbelt Certified
