Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to our Pontiac Metal Center plant location

The Role

As a Press Manufacturing Engineer at Pontiac Stamping, you will play a critical role in advancing our maintenance systems to world-class standards through troubleshooting, root cause analysis, solution design, implementation, and optimization of press and automation systems that support stamping operations.

In this role, you will contribute to innovative manufacturing solutions that improve safety, quality, throughput, and reliability. You will be responsible for maintaining press systems in optimal operating condition, developing maintenance plans that define technical resources and spare parts requirements, identifying process improvement opportunities, and supporting the effective use of equipment, tooling, materials, and personnel.

This position requires sound technical judgment, hands-on problem-solving skills, and the ability to work across a broad range of mechanical and manufacturing systems. You will collaborate closely with engineering, suppliers, plant teams, and controls engineers. In addition to leading technical initiatives, you may provide directions to engineers, group leaders, and skilled trades to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and effectively.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to resolve press system issues
  • Analyze existing systems and identify opportunities to improve accuracy, reliability, speed, and overall performance
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues involving equipment, machinery, and automation systems
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance manufacturing efficiency, quality, and cost performance
  • Perform design analysis for mechanical systems and manufacturing equipment
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation related to equipment and system design, development, and implementation
  • Monitor and support key maintenance metrics, including MTTR, MTBF, downtime, and uptime
  • Partner with internal teams and external suppliers to implement cost-reduction strategies and manufacturing improvements
  • Support training for production and plant personnel on the operation and maintenance of press and automation systems
  • Specify, procure, develop, integrate, and validate press system solutions for stamping operations

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in press shop production and maintenance of manufacturing machinery and equipment
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, including mechanics, hydraulics, and pneumatics
  • Understanding of engineering theory, manufacturing methods, and equipment operating principles
  • Experience managing projects involving changing production schedules, budget constraints, and multiple stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools, including Microsoft Project
  • Experience using CAD and engineering systems such as AutoCAD, Unigraphics, SOLIDWORKS, Teamcenter, or Teamcenter Visualization
  • Strong problem-solving skills, initiative, and the ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations
  • High level of integrity and the ability to work independently
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Strong sense of urgency
  • Results-oriented mindset

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in stamping and maintenance
  • Experience with Crossbar and Tandem press systems
  • Hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting industrial machinery or automation systems
  • SAP system proficiency
  • MAXIMO maintenance management system proficiency
