The Team
As a Global Purchasing & Supply Chain Intern at General Motors, you will immerse yourself in the heart of our operations, learning how we source and manage the vital components that keep our vehicles and business running smoothly. This may include solving complex challenges, innovating with industry leaders, collaborating, networking cross-functionally, and volunteering for community service and team-building activities. This internship is designed for current college students eager to gain hands-on experience and make impactful contributions to our team.
What You’ll Do
Selected interns will be assigned to one of the below pillars based on business need:
Purchasing
-
Source key parts, systems and technologies that go into GM vehicles and future EV products.

Partner with cross-functional teams to balance cost, quality, timing and innovation with suppliers.
Supply Chain
-
Plan and support vehicle/propulsion production so plants have the right parts at the right time.

Use data to help manage demand, material changes and day-to-day supply chain operations.
Logistics
-
Support inbound/outbound logistics, from parts arriving at plants to vehicles reaching customers.

Help design packaging, routes and logistics solutions that reduce cost and improve delivery performance.
Other Internship Opportunities

Contribute to value chain, sustainability, accessories, aftermarket and supplier resiliency projects.

Gain exposure to strategy, planning, GM Energy and new business models shaping GM’s supply chain.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
-
Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Supply Chain, Logistics, Packaging, Purchasing, Procurement/ Acquisitions and Contract Management, Business, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, General Engineering, Business Analytics, Management Information Systems

Must be graduating between December 2027 and August 2029

Able to work fulltime, 40 hours per week during the summer months
What will give you a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

Previous purchasing, logistics, or supply chain internship experience

Demonstrated curiosity and aptitude for learning new AI-enabled tools and applying them in a business context.

Participation in Supply Chain case competition team or similar school association

Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization

Emerging partnership and teamwork skills and ability to learn from and share knowledge with co-workers in a fast-paced environment

High level of integrity, ability to deal with ambiguity, takes initiative/self-directed

Consistently demonstrates innovative thinking that is customer-centric

Proficient with Microsoft office products - Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Google Workspace

Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to GM Global Technical Center – Cole Engineering Center, Warren, MI, three times per week, at minimum.
GM will provide a one-time lump sum taxable stipend payment to eligible students selected for the 2027 Student Program. To help facilitate administration of relocation benefits if you are selected, please apply using the permanent address you would move from.
Start dates for this internship role are May & June of 2027.
