  • Ensure torque processes and equipment comply with corporate torque standards, customer requirements, and applicable regulatory requirements.
Torque Strategy & Process Control
  • Own the plant torque strategy for critical and safety-related fastenings, including definition of fastening methods, torque/angle specifications, and confirmation plans.
  • Maintain and update torque-related process control documentation (e.g., bills of operation, PCPs, torque standards, work instructions) and ensure changes are effectively communicated to stakeholders.
  • Partner with Industrial Engineering and Manufacturing to confirm that torque requirements are correctly reflected in job element sheets (JES) and standard operation sheets (SOS).
Torque Tooling & Systems Management
  • Lead selection, deployment, and optimization of torque tools and controllers (e.g., DC tools, nutrunners, click/beam wrenches, torque/angle monitoring systems).
  • Define and maintain torque programs, limits, and parameter sets; periodically audit tools and programs to confirm correct setpoints and reaction strategies.
  • Coordinate calibration, preventive maintenance, and repairs for torque tools in partnership with maintenance and suppliers; minimize downtime and ensure traceability of calibration records.
Quality, Data Analysis & Problem Solving
  • Monitor torque performance metrics (e.g., first-time quality, scrap, rework, torque confirmation results) and drive corrective actions and continuous improvement.
  • Investigate torque-related quality issues and equipment problems using structured problem-solving methods; identify root cause and implement robust, systemic solutions.
  • Use statistical methods and data from torque systems (curves, rundown angles, failure codes) to validate process capability and refine torque limits.
Launch & Change Management Support
  • Provide torque engineering support for new product/program launches, line moves, and process changes, including trials, run-at-rate, and validation builds.
  • Participate in change management activities to assess torque impact of design changes, new tooling, and material changes; validate modifications through trials and documentation updates.
Training & Coaching
  • Develop and deliver training for operators, team leaders, quality inspectors, and maintenance on torque fundamentals, proper tool use, and reaction strategies.
  • Mentor backup torque coordinators and key plant resources to build bench strength and sustain best practices.

  • Serve as the plant subject matter expert for torque, collaborating with Manufacturing, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Industrial Engineering, and Supplier Quality.
  • Participate in corporate/global torque forums to share lessons learned, adopt best practices, and align with global torque standards and scorecards.
  • Communicate torque risks, status, and action plans clearly to plant leadership and cross-functional teams.
