Work Arrangement:
Hybrid : This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI or Milford, MI three times per week.
Leads GM’s corporate software strategy for new technologies, complex features, and major program enhancements, providing technical leadership to execution teams for development and integration. Oversees comprehensive design analysis and leads integration and verification testing of software builds. Stays updated on new technologies and competitive products to define GM’s strategic direction. Establishes and communicates best practices within the software community.
Acts as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for specific platforms or applications and actively participates in hiring, including developing technical questionnaires, reviewing resumes, and conducting interviews. Engages in projects eligible for patent applications and maintains visibility across infotainment teams and sites. Performs other related duties as assigned.
The Role
As a Staff Software Engineer – Automation Library Development at GM, you will define and deliver automation software library strategy and solutions enabling vehicle-level test automation across all systems and subsystems.
This role sits at the center of building a scalable automation ecosystem supporting the Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV), collaborating across engineering teams to modernize testing, validation, and integration practices.
What You Will Do

Define Python automation libraries and framework enablers for scalable vehicle-level testing.

Establish and enforce clean, efficient, and well-documented coding standards.

Perform code reviews and drive engineering best practices.

Collaborate with global teams to enhance automation architecture and tooling.

Mentor and develop a high-performing software automation team.

Partner with virtual engineering teams to develop next-generation SDV tools and processes.

Lead technical workshops to solve complex problems and drive innovation.

Drive continuous improvement of enterprise-scale automation pipelines and quality frameworks.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

7+ years of experience in software development (C++, C#, Python, etc.).

Experience with Automotive Ethernet including SOME/IP communication protocol
-
Strong hands-on experience with test automation development and frameworks.

Experience working with open-source and/or commercial automation tools.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Understanding of vehicle electrical architecture and vehicle subsystems/features.

Advanced degree in engineering, computer science, or technical leadership discipline.

3+ years of experience in automotive software development or test automation.

Experience designing and extending automation frameworks and platform enablers.

Strong understanding of Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV) architecture principles, including service-oriented architecture and decoupled software/hardware systems

Experience with Automotive Ethernet.

Knowledge of AUTOSAR Adaptive and/or Classic Platforms.
-
Experience with TCP/IP networking fundamentals and communication protocols.

Experience debugging or analyzing in-vehicle network traffic (e.g., Wireshark, packet-level inspection).

Understanding of end-to-end communication flows across ECUs in Automotive architectures.
