The Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Materials and Substance Compliance Engineer to ensure our products meet global regulatory requirements for materials and substances.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

Lead and execute materials and substance compliance activities throughout the product lifecycle, from design to end-of-life.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Design, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain, to integrate compliance requirements into product development.

Utilize Engineering Release Systems and Teamcenter Visualization to manage and track material data and compliance status.

Analyze product designs and material compositions to identify potential compliance risks and propose effective solutions.

Develop and implement strategies to ensure adherence to various global regulations (e.g., REACH, RoHS, GADSL, ELV).

Drive continuous improvement in compliance processes and tools.

Act as a subject matter expert on materials and substance regulations, providing guidance and training to internal stakeholders.

Effectively communicate complex compliance information to technical and non-technical audiences, both internally and externally.

Proactively identify emerging regulations and assess their potential impact on General Motors' products and operations.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor's degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical field.

2+ years experience in materials and substance compliance within a manufacturing or automotive environment or relevant experience.

Demonstrated ability to apply Creative Problem-Solving techniques to complex regulatory challenges.

Strong Customer-Focused approach with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Experience with Design/Development/Integration processes in a complex product environment.

A strong Drive for Results and a proactive approach to achieving compliance objectives.
-
Demonstrated ability to Lead Cross-Functional Teams and influence stakeholders at all levels.
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

Proficiency in using the International Materials Data System (IMDS) and ProECoMs.

Proficiency in Google Workspace and AI tools
-
Working Knowledge of Automotive parts

Familiarization with global regulations such as REACH, RoHS, GADSL, ELV (End of Life) vehicles.
