About GM Defense
GM Defense (GMD) continues a 100-year legacy of designing, validating, and manufacturing vehicles and equipment in support of defense and other government customers. Within GM Defense, the recently created Autonomous Driving and Robotics group is charged with adapting, integrating, and enhancing GM’s automated driving capabilities to the needs of GM Defense customers.
The Role:
Marketing & Customer Engagement Lead plays a pivotal role in planning and ensuring successful execution of marketing and customer engagement events with customers, partners, and stakeholders to enable product visibility, opportunity development, and capture of major GM Defense opportunities. This role is responsible for leading teams to plan, coordinate, support and execute high-profile events and customer engagement activities. This role also builds relationships to collaborate with GM and brand teams on projects to expand GM Defense brand and product presence around the world. The ideal candidate will excel in quickly crafting adaptive marketing and customer engagement solutions, coordinating activities with precision, leveraging relationships with other GM brands for collaboration, and taking ownership to deliver exceptional customer experiences that reinforce GM Defense's position as a market leader.
What You’ll Do:

Manage coordinating and (when needed) personally executing a wide range of activities associated with and executed at Warren Technical Center, Milford Proving ground, and other locations. Through coordinated and individual action, this role ensures success of activities are critical for successful GM Defense customer engagement, opportunity development, and long-term growth, to include:

Detroit-Area Customer Engagement & Event Planning
-
Customer-Focused Experience / Event Planning: Partner with internal teams and external vendors to plan and coordinate impactful customer-and product-focused events that support GM Defense opportunity development and strategic engagement.

On-Site Event Planning & Coordination at Detroit Area Facilities: Serve as the lead point person for planning on-site GM Defense customer engagement events at Warren Technical Center, Milford Proving Ground, and other Detroit area GM locations.

Product Experience Planning & Execution
-
Experiential Marketing & Customer Engagement Design & Coordination: Planning and coordination of dynamic product experiences (ride & drive, demonstrations, etc.) at Milford Proving Ground, Warren, and other Detroit-area GM facilities

Activation Coordination & Execution Management: Lead coordination, support for, and execution of activations for static display of GMD products (often in concert with other GM brands) to highlight GMD products and their relationship with GM products and brands

Customer Engagement & Marketing Support to Opportunity Development

Marketing & Communication (MarCom) Campaign Development & Execution: Support design and execution of long-term MarCom campaigns that apply GM Defense resources and leverage collaborations with GM brands to enable GMD capture campaigns and achievement of GMD growth priorities

Tradeshow Planning & Execution

Major Tradeshow Planning & Execution Lead: Lead planning and execution support major tradeshows, to include booth design/development, execution planning, and management of associated coordination (lodging, logistics, etc.)

Merchandizing & Apparel Management
-
GS&S Apparel Management: Coordinate apparel for GS&S and key GMD personnel to enable successful business development and customer engagement

Marketing Apparel Management: Manage ordering and distribution of apparel and other items ("swag") to support GMD marketing activities (tradeshows, activations, etc.)

Merchandizing & Licensing: Work with GM Merchandize & Licensing team to coordinate to us GM Defense branding for third part products in order to expand GM Defense brand recognition and generate revenue/value for General Motors
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
-
5+ years of experience in marketing, branding, event management, customer engagement or related
-
Demonstrated expertise in managing product-focused experiential marketing or customer engagement events for defense/government or other similar industries
-
Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, manage execution and track resources for customer engagement projects
-
Familiarity with defense/government or security sector
-
Ability to travel up to 25% of time domestically + internationally including weekends

Strong visual communications and presentation skills (e.g. PowerPoint, etc.)

Strong understanding of branding principles and experiential marketing strategies required for successful customer engagement
-
Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee)

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, related field

Firm experience with defense, government, and/or automotive sectors

Strong analytical skills to measure effectiveness/ROI of activities and make data-driven improvements.

Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills, with a track record of influencing and collaborating with diverse stakeholders for customer engagement.

Previous experience with marketing or customer engagement for military and/or government
