At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.
Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale..
The Role
As a Transmission and Drive Unit Engineering Designer, you will create detailed, production-ready designs that integrate functionality, safety, quality, and manufacturability. You will partner with Assistant Chief Engineers, Design System Engineers, Safety, Manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to transform advanced concepts into robust solutions that perform in the real world.
Success in this role requires advanced NX CAD modeling and drawing skills, strong attention to detail, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to balance design intent, customer experience, cost, timing, and manufacturing feasibility throughout the development process.

-
Integrate global and regional safety requirements into transmission and drive unit designs.
-
Communicate with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve technical issues within the area of responsibility.
-
Participate in Core Meetings, Math Virtual Assessments, and Synch Point reviews to validate design integrity, integration, manufacturability, and design for assembly.
-
Benchmark competitors and industry solutions to evaluate packaging and component performance.
-
Create and maintain NX models and continue to develop NX design skills.
-
Incorporate Voice of the Customer insights into packaging and design solutions.
