At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role

General Motors is seeking a driven Air Induction and Exhaust System Design Release Engineer to lead the development, integration, and production launch of advanced air induction and exhaust systems for next-generation vehicle programs. This role combines technical expertise, program leadership, and supplier management to deliver high-performance components and systems that meet rigorous safety, quality, and timing standards.

You will guide your product development team through the full Vehicle Development Process, from defining requirements to designing and releasing a complex air induction and/or exhaust subsystem into production. Responsibilities include utilizing engineering tools and processes to develop robust, manufacturable components and systems, while driving milestone achievement through disciplined and proactive program management.

You’ll coach and lead suppliers to ensure flawless execution of deliverables, and apply a high level of independent judgment, creativity, and initiative to solve complex challenges and continuously improve product quality and performance.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Lead the Product Development Team (PDT) for air induction and/or exhaust systems.

  • Manage the design, release, and integration of air induction and exhaust systems into GM vehicles with precision and timeliness.

  • Oversee pre-production builds, ensuring properties are shipped test-ready and aligned with program milestones.

  • Drive completion of Design Validation using analytical tools such as FEA, modal analysis, and virtual builds.

  • Identify root causes of design issues and implement effective solutions.

  • Define and develop technical specifications including CTS, SSTS, SOR, and ICD documents.

  • Refine design criteria and typical sections using math data to support robust engineering decisions.

  • Conduct trade off studies and recommend program direction based on cost, mass, and timing.

  • Lead and support technical reviews with suppliers and internal teams.

  • Coordinate cross-functional activities with purchasing, manufacturing, and supplier quality teams.

  • Monitor warranty data and address emerging product issues.

  • Translate lessons learned into best practices and contribute to continuous improvement.

  • Stay current with emerging technologies and identify opportunities for innovation.

  • Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and transparency.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

  • 2+ years of relevant engineering experience.

  • Strong grasp of engineering theory, design principles, and system integration.

  • High analytical aptitude for solving complex, non-routine problems.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective team and supplier engagement.

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and engineering operations.

  • Familiarity with CAD and CAE tools.

  • Understanding of Specification and Release systems.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Prior experience in air induction and/or exhaust systems design, release, development, or analysis.

  • DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) Certification.
