Descripción
Global Manufacturing Electrical & SDV is looking for innovators who thrive in tough challenges and are passionate about tackling meaningful work that will shape the future of the automotive industry. This isn’t a role for those looking for an easy path—it’s for those who embrace change, push through obstacles, and take ownership of complex problems. While there will be long days and moments that test your resilience, you’ll find purpose in your work, flexibility to prioritize your family, and the support of a people-first culture. If you’re ready to grow, thrive, and make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you.
WHY: Deliver production-ready tooling and plant layouts that enable consistent fit, finish, and electrical performance—ensuring every vehicle meets GM’s quality standards and earns customer trust at scale.
WHAT: Design and implement tooling and manufacturing layouts that support electrical system integration—from early concept through launch—driving efficiency, repeatability, and build quality across global production environments.
HOW: Partner directly with plant teams, engineering, and suppliers to translate vehicle and electrical requirements into manufacturable solutions—using CAD, GD&T, and GM tooling standards—while continuously refining designs based on build feedback, constraints, and production realities.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):
- Design and develop tooling and overall layout concepts for new and existing manufacturing processes.
- Create detailed CAD models and drawings for tooling, fixtures, and equipment placement – including development of Manufacturing Requirements based off GD&T best practices.
- Build robust partnerships across Manufacturing functions — AIC, MTS, Flex Shop, GM Vehicle Systems Execution, and Commodity Management to drive alignment and execution for new electrical tooling across multiple plants.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, suppliers, and automation teams to ensure manufacturability and ergonomic efficiency.
- Support launch activities by refining layouts and tooling based on feedback and production needs.
- Analyze workflow, space utilization, and material flow to optimize plant layouts.
- Ensure designs comply with safety, quality, and GM regulatory standards.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling and layout efficiency.
- Collaborate across global teams and time zones with flexibility and strong communication.
- Foster a forward-thinking work culture that embraces change and navigates future organizational and industry challenges.
- Build and nurture strategic relationships across various functions including software, manufacturing, and program management to synergize efforts towards future innovations.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Proven background in tooling and layout design for manufacturing environments
- Strong understanding of GM Manufacturing processes, tooling design, layout planning and electrical integration
- Proficiency in CAD software (NX, TeamCenter, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
- Proficiency with GM Global Common Tooling & Controls Standards (GCCB, GCCS, GCCL, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to break down complex manufacturing and tooling challenges into structured, logical approaches to problem solving
- Proven effectiveness working across cross-functional teams while maintaining organization and focus in fast-paced, multi-priority environments
- Continuous improvement mindset with a track record of identifying inefficiencies and thinking beyond current-state manufacturing processes
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Familiarity with automation systems, robotics, and ergonomic design principles
- Prior involvement in plant operations or launch activities, with a strong understanding of production dynamics.
- Ability to cross-functionally kick off process simulations for the tooling you design.
