Welcome – we’re glad you’re taking the first step in exploring opportunities at GM. To help you in the interviewing and hiring process, we want to make sure you’re prepared.

Our interview and hiring process differs from role-to-role, so familiarize yourself to the interview and hiring process that meet the roles you’re interested in.

Apply

Search available positions, and once you’ve found a fit, submit your completed application online

Assess

After applying, you will be screened for the necessary qualifications. If you meet qualifications, you may be asked to complete an assessment.

Interview

If you continue to the next phase, an interview will be scheduled with you.

Offer

At the completion of the interview process, the most qualified candidate will be identified and job offer will be extended. You will then be asked to complete a drug screen and background check.

Does GM offer career re-entry opportunities?

How do I know my application is submitted?

You will receive an email confirmation of your completed application and status once it has been submitted.

Can I start an application without submitting it?

You are able to continue your application and return to your application progress by logging into your account prior to the posting expiration. Once the application is submitted or the posting expires, you will not be able to make any changes.

How do I withdraw my interest and application?

We value your interest and hope you consider us in your future employment endeavors. You are able to withdraw your application at any time should you decide you are no longer interested in the role by logging into your account and withdrawing from the position.

I applied to an opening but I have not heard back, when should I expect to know about next steps?

It depends on the role and the number of candidates. But generally, it takes a couple weeks from application through to offer.

You can log into your candidate home page on Workday to check your application status at any time, leveraging your unique username and password when you applied.

I don’t see any openings that match my interest or experience, how can I apply?

Before

If your interview is in-person, someone from the GM team will meet you when you arrive at General Motors to help escort you to the first interview and answer any questions you may have. If interviewing virtually, test your internet connection beforehand and log in early to ensure everything is working properly. Be sure to review the interview preparation material when provided by the recruiter.

During

Competency-based interview questions focusing on BEHAVIORS and REQUIREMENTS are validated for each position. The interview process concentrates on SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, VALUES, and BEHAVIORS that drive individual and organizational success. Use the STAR format, basing your answers on specific, job-related, real examples of behaviors demonstrated in previous roles. Be sure to ask ALL of your questions before the interview is concluded.

After

THANK YOU for your time! After your interviews, if you have further questions, be sure to ASK YOUR RECRUITER. Your recruiter will contact you once a hiring decision has been made.
