GM’s next-gen electrical architecture replaces dozens of legacy ECUs with a centralized, high-performance compute platform, so features, safety updates and experiences are delivered primarily through software instead of hardware changes. Engineers build modular services once and deploy them across nameplates and trims, enabling faster OTA updates, more reuse, and a vehicle that keeps getting better over time.
Super Cruise enables hands-free driving on compatible roads while an in-cabin attention system helps keep drivers engaged. Since launching in 2017, it has become one of the industry’s most advanced production AV systems — combining HD maps, precise GPS, sensors, and real-time monitoring.
Autonomous driving isn’t new to new to General Motors. Long before “self-driving” entered the vocabulary, GM engineers were exploring how vehicles could reduce the cognitive load of driving. This work now forms the foundation for hands-off, eyes-off driving, which will debut in 2028, enabled by our next-gen compute platform. Our goal is to expand autonomy across increasing levels of capability — from hands-off assistance to eyes-off operation, and eventually vehicles that can operate on their owner’s behalf in certain environments.
Beyond what happens on the road, GM engineers build robotics, industrial automation and optimization models that power our plants and supply chain. From VR-driven pre-production and ergonomic simulations to intelligent robots and scheduling algorithms, teams are using software and AI to make manufacturing safer, and more flexible end-to-end.
GM is building a custom conversational in-vehicle AI assistant, fine-tuned with your vehicle’s intelligence and personal preferences, all connected by OnStar. Unlike a general-purpose AI assistant, it understands you, your vehicle and the world around you. This assistant can help you find a perfect place for dinner, spot a maintenance issue early, and coach you through advanced features like Super Cruise..
GM’s premiere electric vehicle platform is built on flexible EV architecture and a dynamic propulsion system. Our Battery Platform fuels the production of EVs across GM’s product portfolio. Customers rely on its impeccable power, range and performance.
Our next-gen EVs are powered by a family of five interchangeable drive units and three motors. Together, they make up GM’s Electric Drive System – which helps GM transition its current portfolio to a fully electric lineup.
We’re the first automaker to use an (almost) completely wireless battery management system, or wBMS, for production electric vehicles. This wBMS enables GM to power many different types of electric vehicles from a common set of battery components.

Super Cruise enables hands-free driving1 on compatible roads while an in-cabin attention system helps keep drivers engaged. Since launching in 2017, it has become one of the industry’s most advanced production AV systems — combining HD maps, precise GPS, sensors, and real-time monitoring.
Nearly 700,000 Super Cruise-enabled vehicles have driven more than 800 million hands-free miles across 23 models in North America. We also have learnings from millions of hands-free, eyes-off miles of data driven by Cruise. In addition, we have hundreds of data collection vehicles with production intent sensors and compute to collect high precision data.
Each mile captures real-world driving conditions across geographies, weather environments, traffic patterns, road types and variations of road actor behaviors. The result is a powerful feedback loop: this scale accelerates system learning and improves models faster.
