Technical Rotation and Career Knowledge


The purpose of TRACK is to create a dynamic rotational development program that empowers incoming talent to grow their skills, expand their networks, and gain meaningful experiences across the enterprise. Through hands-on learning, mentorship, and exposure to multiple functions, TRACK prepares participants to become the next generation of leaders and innovators at General Motors.
Provide participants with exposure to critical areas of GM’s business, such as engineering, manufacturing, operations, finance, and product development.
Equip new hires with a diverse set of technical, leadership, and communication skills by rotating through different roles.
Identify and cultivate future leaders by giving them a comprehensive view of the company's operations and fostering leadership skills through mentorship, hands-on projects, and coaching.
Build a pipeline of highly trained and engaged talent who are committed to growing their careers at GM.

Opportunities exist primarily for BA and MA-level students in both technical and non-technical fields. Please review each job posting for TRACK roles for specific requirements.
To apply, you must submit your application to an open requisition by creating a Workday profile and uploading your resume.
Qualified applicants can expect an update on their application status within 2 weeks or sooner of their submittal.
If selected for an interview, candidates are notified by a member of the ECT Recruiting team and are given tips on how to best prepare for their interview.
The interview process can vary but typically involves one 60-minute interview with two leaders from the business. In some technical spaces, the process may also include a technical assessment.
Interview questions explore applicants’ behavioral and technical ability as related to the role and are designed to allow applicants to showcase their experiences, aptitude, and drive.
Candidates utilize scheduling software to select their ideal interview times/dates.
The recruiting team strives to provide to post-interview updates to applicants within approximately two (2) weeks after final interview.

It emphasizes the importance of building strong networks early on and helps TRACK participants feel confident, supported, and empowered throughout their journey.

The Super Slice session with Mary Barra offers a unique opportunity to engage directly with GM’s top leadership in a candid, conversational setting. It encourages open dialogue around GM’s strategy, culture, and future, while inspiring TRACK employees through Mary’s leadership journey and insights.

Helps members build meaningful connections across functions and career stages, encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing. These events support career growth by connecting participants with mentors and leaders, while fostering a strong sense of community and shared purpose. They also promote visibility and engagement, showcasing how TRACK talent contributes to GM’s success.

Pairs each new TRACK participant with a current member before their official start, offering personalized guidance and support. Buddies help ease the transition into GM by answering questions, sharing experiences, and providing practical advice. This relationship continues throughout the program, fostering connection, confidence, and a welcoming environment.
