The Role: System Integration Validation Engineer (SIVE)
The System Integration Validation Engineer supports end-to-end integration and validation of assigned features and systems across vehicle domains such as Exterior Lighting, Bumper Fascia Grille, and Exterior Trim. This role partners with senior SIVEs to build deep system expertise and owns validation readiness for functionality, performance, safety, and regulatory compliance through launch. The SIVE serves as a single point of accountability for validation readiness while working under general guidance and exercising independent judgment on standard tasks.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
Architecture, Use Cases, and Strategy
- Understand stakeholder needs and expected feature behavior
- Translate feature and system intent into validation and integration strategies
- Track applicability of system variants across vehicle programs
Integration, Testing, and Evaluation
- Verify feature functionality on benches and vehicles across system variants
- Plan, schedule, and execute system and feature-level tests including environmental, functional, performance, and safety testing
- Conduct structured exploratory evaluations beyond written requirements
- Assist with automation and regression testing
- Create and maintain test cases
Issue Management and Continuous Improvement
- Proactively identify, document, and drive closure of validation and integration issues
- Perform preliminary root-cause analysis
- Conduct integration workshops with suppliers and release teams
- Provide closed-loop feedback to systems, design, and calibration teams
Compliance, Documentation, and Communication
- Maintain ADV plans, test status, and traceability to requirements
- Approve and upload evidence for self-certification and type approval
- Author validation plans, test reports, Product Validation Letters, and compliance summaries
- Communicate readiness, risks, and decisions clearly to stakeholders
- Execute defined test procedures and document results in GM systems
- Maintain test status, defect tracking, and traceability for assigned scope
- Participate in vehicle and bench evaluations and development trips with coaching
- Contribute to root-cause investigations and recommend data-driven next steps
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer, or related field)
- Foundational knowledge of vehicle systems, interfaces, and failure modes
- Relevant experience in vehicle systems, validation, integration, or testing
- Hands-on experience with system or feature-level testing on benches and or vehicles
- Exposure to issue management and root-cause analysis
- Ability to plan and execute tests and compare results to requirements and acceptance criteria
- Basic experience using requirements and test management tools with traceability
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting
- Ability to work under general guidance with independent judgment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to collaborate across teams
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Systems, or related field)
- Experience in system integration and validation within the automotive industry
- Experience validating safety or regulatory-relevant systems
- Ownership of an ADV plan or validation strategy across multiple programs
- Experience with field issue investigations
- Understanding of vehicle architectures, cross-domain interactions, and failure modes
- Experience with GM validation, requirements, and traceability tools
- Experience with test automation or regression testing (HIL, SIL, or virtual environments)
- Experience planning and executing structured exploratory testing
- Ability to interpret regulatory and safety requirements and translate them into test plans
- Working knowledge of automotive networks and diagnostics such as CAN, LIN, DTCs, and logs
- Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to present risks and readiness
- Experience using Jira, Power BI, and basic knowledge of AI
- Experience with lighting and bumper fascia systems is a plus
