The Role
GM Defense (GMD) is a dynamic growth business within General Motors. Within GMD, the Integrated Product Support (IPS) organization ensures our customers receive world class aftermarket support. The Service and Sustainment Engineering Operations (SSEO) organization, which includes Service Engineering, Technical Publications, and Field Service Representative teams, is accountable for service deliverable readiness across every GMD vehicle worldwide, spanning service part release, technical manuals, RPSTL and EPC, diagnostic software, service programming, and design for serviceability inputs.
We are hiring a Service Engineering and Operations Data Lead to own the tools, data, and processes that underpin IPS service engineering and technical publications. You will be the primary business owner and integrator for systems, data sets, and dashboards that connect engineering, publishing, field support, and leadership, ensuring IPS has a single source of truth and reliable analytics for decision making.
You will blend process and systems design, data and analytics, and change enablement. You will own how IPS uses data and tools to run its business, partner closely with enterprise tool owners, and lead cross functional initiatives that improve service readiness, quality, efficiency, And customer satisfaction. As a senior individual contributor, this role is expected to exercise independent judgment on significant matters, solve broad and non-standard problems with limited precedent, and lead through influence across IPS, SSEO, and partner organizations. The role requires deep knowledge of core IPS service deliverables and broad knowledge of related upstream and downstream functions in order to drive alignment, standardization, and measurable operational improvement.
What You Will Do
- Own IPS data and systems: Define, curate, and maintain core IPS data sets related to service parts, technical publications, diagnostics, provisioning, and field performance across relevant systems and tools. Maintain a single source of truth, including documentation, data dictionaries, and governance standards. Own and build an application roadmap for IPS systems. Establish and maintain common definitions, ownership models, and process controls that improve trust in data and consistency of decision making across the function
- Serve as business owner for analytics: Act as the business owner for key IPS reporting and analytics solutions, partnering with IT, data teams, and tool owners to define requirements, prioritize enhancements, test changes, and ensure data quality and availability. Use independent judgment to set priorities, define business requirements, and guide changes that materially improve IPS execution and decision support
- Design reporting and dashboards: Design, build, and maintain standard reports, scorecards, and dashboards that for IPS leadership, SSEO, Technical Publications, and program teams on topics such as service readiness, change throughput, quality, cycle time, and workload. Create executive ready views that synthesize key messages and tradeoffs for senior stakeholders.
- Generate insights and recommendations: Mine IPS and program data to identify patterns, risks, and opportunities related to service deliverable readiness, late changes, rework, escapes, and field performance. Translate data into clear stories and recommendations that guide decisions. Identify and solve ambiguous, non-standard issues across systems, processes, and data where root causes and solutions are not predefined.
- Develop IPS processes and tool use: Define and document the end to end processes that connect IPS service engineering and technical publications work to GM and GMD systems, from problem identification and change intake through release, field rollout, and sustainment. Own how Service Engineering engages with the Production Engineering Defense change management tool to ensure IPS requirements are captured and that production engineering part releases and Defense Change Requests (DCRs) meet service engineering quality and readiness needs. Design practical, role clear workflows for engineering change, service information updates, diagnostics and tooling updates, and data capture. Influence senior stakeholders through data-driven recommendations, alignment on tradeoffs, and clear articulation of operational impacts across the broader IPS ecosystem
- Drive continuous improvement and adoption: Identify opportunities to reduce manual reporting and rework by automating data pipelines, standard reports, and self service dashboards. Apply Lean and continuous improvement principles to simplify handoffs, reduce cycle time, and eliminate defects across IPS data and IT processes. Build and deliver training and job aids that enable IPS team members to effectively use systems, data, and reports.
Your Skills and Abilities (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.
- 5+ years of relevant experience across data analytics, business intelligence, process or systems engineering, service or production engineering, technical publications, or product support or related field.
- Proficient in leading cross functional tool, data, or process initiatives with measurable outcomes in a complex engineering, manufacturing, or service environment.
- Proven experience creating data tools and architectures in environments where none previously existed.
- Demonstrated ability to translate complex data into clear, concise insights and visual stories for non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
- Strong proficiency with data and visualization tools (for example Power BI, Excel, SQL, or similar) and comfort working across multiple systems and data sources.
- Proven ability to lead cross functional teams without direct authority to drive issue resolution, process adoption, and system improvements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; effective with GM and Government leadership and technical teams.
- Comfortable learning new tools and technologies quickly and leading their deployment and change adoption.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and aggressive timelines in a dynamic environment.
- Candidate must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, asylee or refugee).
- Eligible to obtain Secret U.S. Security Clearance after hire.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Industrial or Systems Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong end-to-end knowledge of service deliverables such as service parts release, technical publications, diagnostics, or provisioning, and their downstream impacts.
- Background in service information development (manuals, RPSTL and EPC, MAC and LTG), diagnostics or service programming, or parts provisioning.
- Experience with configuration and change standards (for example CMII, ISO 9001 or AS9100, AS9145 or APQP) and audit readiness.
- Experience defining and tracking operational KPIs, building dashboards and scorecards, and supporting leadership decision making.
- Familiarity with AI enabled analytics or automation to streamline reporting and analysis.
- Direct experience interfacing with U.S. Army, TACOM, or related DoD stakeholders.
- Exposure to defense export control constraints and data handling.
- Active Secret U.S. Security Clearance as of the first day of work.
This position requires eligibility to access classified information at the Secret U.S. Security Clearance level for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. citizenship. The successful candidate must have eligibility to access classified information at that level.
