The Role
General Motors is seeking a strategic, creative communications leader to shape how our technology story is understood by media, industry stakeholders, and key audiences. The Sr. Manager Communications, Product and Technology leads communications for GM’s product technology portfolio, including autonomous vehicles, artificial intelligence, and software, and plays a critical role in advancing GM’s reputation as a technology company.
This leader will partner closely with engineering, product, and business teams to turn complex technical work into clear, compelling stories that resonate with technical and non-technical audiences alike.
The ideal candidate is a strong storyteller with sharp media instincts, executive communications experience, and a track record of working cross-functionally to launch products and shape narratives that drive business results.

What You’ll Do

Own the communications strategy for GM’s product technology portfolio, including AV, AI, and software

Manage the technology communications team. including staffing, succession, capability building, and performance management

Partner with engineering, product, and business leaders on launches, milestones, and reputation-building initiatives

Build and maintain strong relationships with key reporters, editors, and external stakeholders

Develop media strategies, campaigns, and stories that position GM at the center of innovation and technology conversations

Translate complex technical concepts into clear, engaging language for mainstream and technical audiences

Support executive communications, including messaging, talking points, presentations, and thought leadership

Develop new channels, formats, and storytelling approaches to better reach target audiences

Work across engineering, product, legal, policy, marketing, and corporate communications to ensure aligned messaging

Drive measurable communications outcomes that strengthen GM’s positioning as a technology leader
What You’ll Need
-
15+ years of experience in communications, public relations, or corporate storytelling, ideally in a technology, automotive, mobility, or innovation-driven environment

Experience leading communications strategies for complex product or technology topics

Strong media relations experience and a track record of securing impactful coverage

Exceptional writing, messaging, and storytelling skills

Experience supporting executive communications and thought leadership

Proven ability to work cross-functionally and influence senior leaders

Strong people leadership experience, including coaching and developing teams

The ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications

Experience in AV, AI, software, or emerging technology communications

Background supporting product launches, technical announcements, and reputation-driving campaigns

Ability to reach both technical and mainstream audiences through creative storytelling

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, or a related field
Compensation:
The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws.
The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.

Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
