What You’ll Do
We are seeking an accomplished Hands-On Staff Software Engineer with a deep focus on software architecture, design and development. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record of successfully designing, building, and productionizing large-scale cloud software systems or platforms. In addition to strong system architecture skills, the candidate should possess a strong user-centric mindset, design and develop practical systems that meet product requirements, and actively contribute to the development process. This role also involves cross-functional collaboration with various teams across the company. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in shaping the technical direction, providing leadership, and actively contributing to the development process.
- System Architecture and Design: designing ,coding and deployment independently with minimal or no assistance from other team members.
- Lead the design and architecture of complex, large-scale cloud software systems or platforms.
- Make strategic decisions related to system architecture, technology stack, and design patterns with a strong focus on meeting product requirements.
- Scalability and Performance Optimization: Design systems that scale horizontally and vertically to meet growing demands.
- Identify and address performance bottlenecks for optimal system performance.
- User-Centric Mindset:
- Design systems with a strong user-centric mindset, ensuring that architectural decisions align with user needs and product requirements.
- Ensure that the software architecture aligns with the overall product vision and goals.
- Collaborate closely with product management to understand and incorporate user feedback into the system design.
- Hands-On Coding:
- Actively contribute to the development of critical and complex components of the system using Java and rust.
- Demonstrate coding excellence, adhering to best practices and coding standards.
- Productionized Software:
- Have a proven track record of productionizing software systems, ensuring they meet performance, reliability, and scalability requirements.
- Implement best practices for monitoring, logging, and maintaining production systems.
- Proficiency in DevOps skills, familiarity with CI/CD, automation, and infrastructure as code
- Lead efforts to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues.
- Implement proactive measures to prevent and mitigate system failures.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including product management, business, DevOps, and other engineering teams across the company.
- Ensure alignment of architectural decisions with company-wide objectives.
- Technology Stack Evaluation:
- Stay abreast of emerging technologies and assess their relevance to enhance the platform.
- Evaluate and recommend new tools and technologies to improve system capabilities.
- Leadership:
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to the engineering team.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Staff Software Engineer with a focus on software system architecture.
- 10+ years of industry experience in designing, building, and productionizing large-scale cloud software systems or platforms, with 3+ years in hands-on architectural role
- Strong proficiency in multiple programming languages (Java preferred) and frameworks
- Expertise in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, Google
- In-depth knowledge of microservices architecture and distributed systems.
- Database expertise, including SQL and NoSQL technologies.
- Knowledge of software systems involving large data sets.
- Understanding of data governance, privacy, and compliance.
- Strong user-centric mindset with experience in designing practical systems that meet product requirements.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to make strategic technical decisions aligned with business goals.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
Compensation:
- The expected base compensation for this role is: $160,000 - $240,000. Actual base compensation within the identified range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
- Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
