Description

Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, Michigan three times per week, at minimum.

The Role:

We are seeking a Manager for Controller Integration Engineering (CIE). In this people leader role, you will lead a team responsible for investigating and resolving software control system problems encountered in our products across all phases of the vehicle lifecycle, from early development through launch and end of production.

This role requires close collaboration with software, calibration, manufacturing, Pre-Production Operations, vehicle plant teams, product development teams, suppliers, and technical specialists to isolate root cause, drive corrective action, and ensure high-quality, on-time delivery across GM vehicle programs including VIP and SDV applications.

You will also help develop and lead strategic action plans, build an inclusive and high-performing culture, and strengthen the team’s ability to predict, prevent, and resolve complex vehicle integration issues with safety and quality at the center of every decision.

What You'll Do:

  • Build, coach, and mentor a high-performing engineering team that can provide deep technical expertise, retain and share lessons learned, and continuously improve methods, tools, and knowledge management.

  • Guide the team in developing robust execution and troubleshooting plans for HIL, SIL, SOLE, CVF, vehicle system bench, and vehicle integration issues.

  • Partner with internal and external software teams, algorithm developers, calibrators, and suppliers to investigate software implementation issues and support software and bench update strategies.

  • Oversee controller resource health such as CPU, memory, and NVM utilization, escalating constraints early and partnering with SMEs to prevent late-cycle integration problems.

  • Lead a team responsible for technical vehicle system troubleshooting across vehicle mechatronic embedded control systems, ensuring rapid issue isolation, root cause identification, and resolution.

  • Drive cross-functional problems solving across hardware, software, calibrations, wiring, electrical architecture, and subsystem interactions that do not meet design intent or customer requirements.

  • Own defect governance and closure discipline across PRTS, Jira, and related tracking systems, including documenting anomalies, maintaining status by priority, and driving issues through verification and closure.

  • Lead close collaboration between the CIE team and deployment teams to align integration priorities and ensure smooth, execution-ready releases.

  • Drive quick-turn validation of fixes and non-production software updates to rapidly confirm whether corrections resolve the issue before broader release or milestone use.

  • Communicate controller integration issue status, risks, and recovery plans clearly to stakeholders and leadership, while aligning work to milestone timing and program priorities.

  • Support key build events, buy-off rides, and issue-resolution activities required to help programs launch on time with high quality.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Computer Science, including Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, Software, Aerospace, Mathematics, Systems Engineering, or related disciplines.

  • Minimum 7+ years of engineering experience related to embedded control systems, software, calibrations, algorithms, and/or related hardware.

  • Demonstrated leadership in complex cross-functional environments, including the ability to align multiple teams, remove roadblocks, and deliver high-quality results on schedule.

  • Demonstrated experience troubleshooting and resolving complex embedded control system integration issues with a strong systems mindset and focus on root cause.

  • Strong critical thinking, sound judgment, and a proven focus on failure modes, safety, and timely decision making in ambiguous situations.

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with stakeholders across development, testing, manufacturing, and program execution teams.

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle legally and provide regular on-site support as required.

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master of Science in Engineering and/or Master of Business Administration.

  • 10+ years of engineering experience in embedded controls, software, calibration, algorithms, and/or related hardware development.

  • Prior leadership experience managing engineers responsible for embedded control system integration, release, troubleshooting, or related hardware/software delivery.

  • Experience with propulsion, electrification, high-voltage, chassis, or related control systems domains.

  • Experience with HIL benches, dSPACE, Simulink, Stateflow, ETAS INCA, Vehicle Spy, Python, Jira, and automated test environments.

  • Strong understanding of major automotive subsystems and how they interact at the subsystem and vehicle levels.

Company Vehicle:

Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.
