Launch Quality Engineer - Wind and Water-Factory Zero

The Role
The Launch Quality Engineer - Wind and Water role is responsible for leading wind noise and water leak prevention, validation, issue identification, containment, and countermeasure execution during launch. This position supports launch readiness, vehicle validation, body leak testing and review, and plant execution to protect customer quality and ensure robust process control through all key launch milestones.
This role is being posted with primary responsibility for Wind and Water and will also provide backup support for Squeak and Rattle activity as needed.
The selected candidate will work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Launch, Supplier Quality, Product Engineering, and Operations teams to identify risk, drive problem solving, and ensure issues are escalated, documented, and resolved with urgency.
What You’ll Do
- Lead Wind and Water launch quality activities for new model and major change programs from pre-production through launch stabilization
- Support wind noise and water leak prevention strategy, body leak test planning and review, validation planning, test execution, issue identification, and follow-up
- Drive investigation, containment, root cause analysis, and countermeasure implementation for water-related vehicle and process issues
- Monitor water test performance, summarize gaps, and escalate high-risk concerns that could affect launch timing, customer quality, or plant readiness
- Partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Supplier Quality, and Product Engineering to ensure robust corrective actions are implemented and sustained
- Support launch build events, validation activities, layered reviews, issue tracking, and launch readiness assessments
- Ensure issues are documented clearly with ownership, timing, and closure plan in the appropriate launch and quality systems
- Support audit preparation and execution related to launch quality systems, process control, and validation discipline
- Provide clear status updates to leadership on open concerns, barriers, and recovery actions
- Demonstrating agility and flexibility to support other QE commodities as business and launch needs require
Additional Scope:
While this posting is primarily focused on Water, this role will also provide backup support for Squeak and Rattle activities. Backup support may include:
- Assisting with Squeak and Rattle issue triage during launch events and validation activity
- Supporting coordination of test results, issue documentation, and follow-up actions
- Helping maintain continuity across Water and Squeak and Rattle launch quality tracking when coverage is limited
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience
- 2+ years of experience in manufacturing, quality, launch, validation, vehicle issue resolution, or related operations
- Demonstrated experience in structured problem solving and root cause analysis
- Experience working in a cross-functional manufacturing or launch environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present issues, risks, and recovery actions clearly
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced launch environment
- Ability to work off-shift, weekends, and extended hours as required to support launch events
- Valid driver’s license
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience with vehicle launch, startup, or major model change activity
- Experience with water leak testing, validation, diagnosis, or corrective action implementation
- Experience with GMS quality systems, launch processes, and issue tracking tools
- Experience supporting containment, audit activity, and standardized work execution in a plant environment
- Familiarity with Squeak and Rattle validation and issue resolution processes
- Strong data analysis capability and ability to translate findings into action
- Prior experience working directly with plant operations, manufacturing engineering, and supplier teams
