At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

Work Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI or Mountain View, CA three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.

Company Vehicle: Upon successful completion of a motor vehicle report review, you will be eligible to participate in a company vehicle evaluation program, through which you will be assigned a General Motors vehicle to drive and evaluate. Note: program participants are required to purchase/lease a qualifying GM vehicle every four years unless one of a limited number of exceptions applies.

The Role

General Motors is seeking a Subsystem and Systems Integration Lead to drive vehicle-level integration across cross-functional engineering teams. This role connects product intent, system architecture, and program execution to deliver simpler, better integrated solutions that improve customer value, reduce complexity, and support program performance.

This role is part of the Subsystem and Systems Integration team in Advanced Vehicle Development. The team focuses on shaping better system decisions early, supporting cross-functional problem solving through key program milestones, and piloting improved engineering methods, tools, and processes that can scale more broadly across engineering.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)

  • Lead cross-functional vehicle integration efforts that balance customer needs, technical performance, complexity, and cost

  • Partner with architecture and product management teams to shape integration strategies and recommend system decisions early in development

  • Work across engineering teams to identify commonization opportunities and improve subsystem alignment at the vehicle level

  • Stay embedded with program teams through key milestones to build trust, maintain continuity, and support implementation of recommended solutions

  • Support chief engineers and program leaders in resolving cross-functional issues that require vehicle-level coordination and technical tradeoff management

  • Translate broad or conflicting inputs into clear integration priorities, decision frameworks, and actionable recommendations

  • Pilot and refine engineering tools, methods, and processes in Advanced Vehicle Development to improve systems integration and support broader adoption

  • Drive alignment across stakeholders by clearly communicating tradeoffs, risks, recommendations, and expected outcomes

  • Benchmark competitive and emerging approaches to identify opportunities that strengthen vehicle integration and customer value

  • Champion systems thinking, disciplined problem framing, and cross-functional execution

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechatronics, Systems Engineering, or a related technical field

  • 5 years of engineering experience with increasing responsibility in vehicle, subsystem, or systems integration

  • Demonstrated technical leadership experience in a cross-functional environment

  • Strong understanding of vehicle development processes, system tradeoffs, and engineering decision making

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills across functions and levels

  • Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority and align stakeholders around a common direction

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in complex technical environments

  • Experience using a systems engineering approach to solve technical and organizational challenges

What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 10+ years of engineering experience with increasing responsibility in vehicle, subsystem, or systems integration

  • Experience in Advanced Vehicle Development or early-phase vehicle architecture work

  • Experience working with product management, vehicle architecture, or chief engineer organizations

  • Familiarity with model-based systems engineering methods and integration-focused development tools

  • Experience leading improvements in engineering methods, processes, or toolchains

  • Strong competitive benchmarking capability and strategic problem-solving skills

  • Ability to inspire collaboration and drive change across organizations
