Description
This is an opportunity to lead the people and operations that support General Motors’ U.S. retirement programs and the financial well-being of thousands of employees and retirees. As the dedicated people leader for retirement operations, you will guide a team responsible for critical Defined Benefit and Defined Contribution—including service delivery, controls, reconciliations, audits, vendor coordination, and issue resolution. You will bring sound judgment, operational discipline, and a continuous-improvement mindset to a complex, highly collaborative environment while developing talent and partnering across HR, Payroll, Finance, Legal, Labor Relations, and external administrators to deliver accurate, compliant, and high-quality retirement services.
Key Responsibilities
Retirement Operations Leadership

Lead day-to-day retirement administration and service delivery across operational processes supporting U.S. retirement plans.

Provide operational oversight for case management, escalations, appeals, issue resolution, and participant support processes.

Ensure standard work, desk procedures, controls, and record maintenance processes are documented, maintained, and followed consistently.

Coordinate work across the team to balance priorities, remove roadblocks, and maintain execution discipline across multiple workstreams.
People Leadership

Direct, coach, and develop a team of retirement operations analysts within a larger U.S. Retirement function.

Set clear performance expectations, provide ongoing feedback, support development planning, and recognize strong performance visibly and privately.

Make sound decisions on work assignments, resource alignment, and team priorities to achieve annual objectives and operational commitments.

Serve as a technical and operational resource to the team on retirement processes, cross-functional coordination, and company policies and procedures.
Controls, Audits, and Compliance Execution

Oversee reconciliations, data validations, invoicing support, and operational controls tied to retirement administration.

Monitor operational risks, error trends, and remediation actions to improve accuracy, compliance, and service quality.

Partner with internal stakeholders and external vendors to support compliant execution of retirement processes and operational changes.

Support implementation of approved initiatives, plan changes, and operational improvements with strong follow-through and accountability.
Vendor and Stakeholder Management

Oversee operational vendor service delivery for retirement administration activities and escalate issues as needed to maintain quality and timeliness.

Collaborate with HR, Labor Relations, Payroll, Legal, Finance, Communications, and external administrators to align operations, issue resolution, and implementation activities.

Use data and operational insights to communicate recommendations, influence decisions, and address stakeholder concerns.
Operational Improvement and Execution

Identify and implement operational process improvements that strengthen service delivery, control effectiveness, and team efficiency.

Analyze operational data and team outputs to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.

Support execution of approved changes while maintaining continuity in day-to-day retirement operations.
-
Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across the retirement operations team.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s degree in finance, actuarial science, mathematics, economics, human resources, business administration, or a related field; advanced degree or professional designation is a plus.

5 + years of experience in the benefit or total rewards space.

2+ years of management experience.
-
Significant experience in retirement benefits operations, benefits administration, or closely related areas.

Working knowledge of U.S. retirement plan administration and applicable regulatory requirements, including ERISA, IRS, and DOL considerations.

Experience leading or coordinating operational work involving audits, reconciliations, escalations, vendor management, and service delivery.

Demonstrated experience coaching or leading others.

Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Proficiency with AI tools, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, PowerBI; experience with reporting tools, HR systems, and retirement administration processes preferred.

Location: Hybrid. This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the - Global HQ Warren MI one time per week, at minimum [or other frequency dictated by the business]
