Shift Leader - Flex Fab Operations
Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to our Pontiac Stamping plant location

The Role
Pontiac Flex Fab is a first of its kind flexible manufacturing plant focused on supporting innovative sheet metal forming and assembly processes. Primary applications are focused on quick turnaround, no tooling, low volume and high mix across multiple vehicles programs and other non-automotive applications. Flex Fab is situated in the greater metro-Detroit area close to culture and outdoor recreation - as well as great neighborhoods and schools.
Responsible to manage & mentor salaried group leaders in the implementation and execution of the established business process for an area in the production operations and foster an atmosphere of teamwork and cooperation. Work is of a technical nature using independent judgment within the limits of GMS; focusing on Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE).
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
- Knowledge on multiple sheet metal forming and assembly production processes such a press brake bending, laser cutting, punching, spot welding, laser welding, arc welding and MIG/TIG welding
- Plan and Manage Production using Industry 4.0 tools
- Use 2D/3D design and programming tools for laser cutting, punching, bending and welding for sheet metal fabrication
- Communicate effectively across all shifts
- Champion of allocated BPD activities
- Discuss weekly production plans with production control
- Adjust schedule as needed to solve production problems
- Allocate manpower as needed for each press line; plan release for training
- Maintain shift safety by audits, observation and follow up of all incidents
- Maintain and improve machine up time. Prevent recurrence of breakdown causes
- Ensure TPM program is on track
- Discuss major downtime causes with maintenance weekly and request corrective action
- Sign off standardized work charts. Agree with all shifts
- Lead shift meetings for SPQRCE
- Report shift status to the Area Manager
- Coach and mentor Group Leaders
- Ensure GMS is being followed
- Understand and comply with the terms of local and national labor agreements
- Ensure cost controls achieves budget needs
- Support area manager to resolve manpower issues in conjunction with union
- Liaise with customers for quality problems and co-ordinate countermeasures
- Rotate shifts as needed
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- 5+ years of manufacturing experience (conventional + new technologies)
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- Leadership experience
- Knowledge on multiple sheet metal forming and assembly production processes such a press brake bending, laser cutting, punching, spot welding, laser welding, arc welding and MIG/TIG welding
- Experience on using 2D/3D design and programming tools for laser cutting, punching, bending and welding for sheet metal fabrication
- Experience with using 3D CAD software tools such as Teamcenter Visualization, NX
- Experience on manufacturing operations while using Industry 4.0 software tools
- Experience working with Trumpf Software and Technology on a production or pre-production environment
- Experience on launching new technology while dealing with ambiguity and creating new processes when applicable
- High level of analytical ability and interpersonal skills
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills
- Ability to work overtime as needed
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- 7+ years of manufacturing experience (conventional + new technologies)
- Experience working with Trumpf Technology on a production or pre-production environment
- Knowledge on software tools like Trumpf Oseon and TruTops Boost
- Experience on running high-mix and low volume operation
- Knowledge of and coaching experiences in Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS)
- Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area
- Experience working in a union facility
