Description

Global Manufacturing Electrical & SDV is seeking a Manufacturing Software Integration Engineer to develop, integrate, and support the software and controls systems used to validate vehicle electrical systems across GM's global manufacturing network. These systems play a critical role in ensuring every vehicle is tested, verified, and built correctly before reaching our customers.

This role sits at the intersection of software engineering, industrial controls, manufacturing systems, and vehicle technologies. You will work closely with manufacturing, IT, controls, validation, engineering, and plant teams to develop reliable solutions, troubleshoot complex issues, and drive continuous improvements across production-critical systems.

This Role Is Ideal For

Engineers who enjoy solving complex challenges where software, controls systems, manufacturing equipment, and vehicle technologies intersect. You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy troubleshooting difficult problems, integrating diverse technologies, influencing technical direction, and seeing your work directly impact vehicle quality and manufacturing performance.

WHY

Help enable the software, controls, and validation systems that support every vehicle built across GM's global manufacturing network. Your work will directly impact vehicle quality, manufacturing uptime, issue resolution, and Electrical First Time Quality (EFTQ) by ensuring critical manufacturing systems operate reliably, efficiently, and at scale.

WHAT

As a Manufacturing Software Integration Engineer, you will develop, integrate, and support software and controls solutions that enable manufacturing validation, electrical testing, and production operations. You will serve as a technical leader across software, controls, networking, and plant systems while helping drive resolution of complex manufacturing challenges.

HOW

Partner with manufacturing, controls, IT, validation, and engineering teams to develop reliable software solutions, integrate manufacturing technologies, and solve complex production issues through technical expertise, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Work Arrangement – Onsite

The successful candidate is expected to report to the Warren Tech Center on a full-time basis.

What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, integrate, and support software applications that validate vehicle electrical systems and support manufacturing operations across GM's global manufacturing network.
  • Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis of complex issues involving software, PLCs, industrial networks, manufacturing equipment, and plant systems.
  • Support validation activities using test benches, development hardware, production equipment, and vehicles.
  • Develop and maintain integrations between software applications, PLCs, manufacturing equipment, robotics systems, and enterprise platforms.
  • Partner with manufacturing, IT, controls engineers, product engineering, and plant teams to deploy reliable, scalable, and supportable solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership on complex integration projects, helping teams resolve issues and deliver solutions on time.
  • Improve system reliability, performance, maintainability, and operational efficiency through continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support production-critical systems, including issue response, deployment activities, and operational readiness efforts.
  • Contribute to technical standards, documentation, best practices, and mentoring of less experienced engineers.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Professional experience developing, integrating, or supporting software in manufacturing, industrial automation, controls, test systems, or similar technical environments.
  • Strong programming experience in C, C++, C#, or related software development languages.
  • Significant experience supporting PLC platforms such as Rockwell/Allen-Bradley, Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, or equivalent controls environments.
  • Experience integrating software with manufacturing equipment, controls systems, industrial devices, or plant-floor technologies.
  • Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols including EtherNet/IP, TCP/IP, and UDP communications.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex issues involving software, controls, networking, hardware, and manufacturing systems.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, engineering, IT, validation, and plant operations.
  • Proven ability to lead technical problem solving and drive issues to closure across multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience working with industrial robotics, including programming, troubleshooting, or integration activities.
  • Experience supporting industrial vision systems and automated inspection technologies.
  • Experience with PC-to-PC, PC-to-PLC, or manufacturing integration platforms such as IDEAi or similar technologies.
  • Experience with automotive manufacturing, end-of-line testing, vehicle diagnostics, or manufacturing validation systems.
  • Familiarity with vehicle communication protocols such as CAN, UDS, or DoIP.
  • Experience with embedded systems, firmware, or hardware-integrated software solutions.
  • Familiarity with GitHub, Jira, Visual Studio, or similar software development tools.
  • Experience supporting vehicle electrical systems, electrical validation systems, or plant-floor applications.
  • Experience supporting production-critical applications in high-availability environments.
  • Experience working in assembly plants, manufacturing facilities, or industrial automation environments.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location on a full-time basis.
