The Role

At General Motors, our Global Manufacturing Engineering team is transforming facilities and processes to help create an all-electric future. As a Dimensional Performance Engineer, you will lead dimensional quality performance across Body-in-White, Body Shop, General Assembly, and vehicle launch programs. You will use metrology data, structured problem solving, supplier collaboration, and process-control methods to identify and resolve dimensional risks affecting fit, function, appearance, manufacturability, and launch readiness. Your leadership will help reduce variation, improve process capability, and deliver stable, high-quality vehicles from launch through steady-state production.

What You'll Do

• Drive continuous improvement of dimensional quality for Body-in-White, Body Shop, and General Assembly parts and subassemblies throughout launch and steady-state production by reducing variation and improving process capability.
• Lead body and General Assembly dimensional integration by monitoring performance, identifying risk, and proactively resolving issues that affect vehicle fit, function, appearance, manufacturability, and launch readiness.
• Analyze CMM, laser-scanning, supplier, and production measurement data using Red X, statistical analysis, and structured problem-solving methods to identify root causes, implement corrective actions, and prevent recurrence.
• Lead cross-functional dimensional investigations involving product requirements, manufacturing processes, tooling, supplier performance, and final vehicle quality; support vehicle launches, Issue Resolution Teams, and timely issue closure.
• Partner with suppliers to resolve dimensional concerns, improve incoming component quality, and ensure compliance with product and process requirements.
• Develop, implement, and monitor dimensional Process Control and Measurement Plans; conduct matching, repeatability, capability, and measurement-system studies to validate performance and identify optimization opportunities.
• Provide technical support for tooling and manufacturing processes, including tooling adjustments, fixture validation, nominal verification, measurement strategy development, laser scanning, digital measurement, and additional measurement points that improve data accuracy and build quality.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

• Experience improving dimensional quality for Body Shop, Body-in-White, and General Assembly systems.
• Strong understanding of Body Shop, General Assembly, Body, Trim, and Final Assembly operations and manufacturing processes.
• Proficiency collecting, analyzing, and interpreting CMM, laser-scan, supplier, and production measurement data, including dimensional studies and measurement-system validation.
• Expertise in Red X, statistical analysis, structured problem solving, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T), vehicle integration, and root-cause analysis.
• Experience developing and implementing dimensional control plans, measurement plans, process monitoring systems, tooling studies, repeatability assessments, and process or tooling improvements.
• Working proficiency with Control Room, GDIS, Siemens NX (UG), Vis Mockup, Microsoft Office, and relevant manufacturing software applications.
• Automotive launch and production support experience, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams, facilitate collaboration among Product Engineering, Manufacturing, suppliers, and plant operations, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Ability to solve complex technical and manufacturing challenges through data-driven decision-making, reduce variation, improve process capability, and support launches across North American assembly facilities.
• An engineering degree is preferred but not required; equivalent experience may be considered.

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or a related Engineering discipline.
• Experience leading dimensional performance across multiple vehicle programs, plants, or North American assembly facilities.
• Advanced experience with digital measurement strategies, laser scanning, CMM applications, virtual manufacturing initiatives, or dimensional data automation.

This role is categorized as onsite. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location on a full-time basis.

The selected candidate will be required to travel at least 50% or more on a frequent basis.
