Description

Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

The Global Sourcing Manager leads strategic sourcing, supplier management, and cost-optimization activities for logistics services. The role is ideal for a sourcing, procurement, data, or AI/ML professional who can translate complex freight and supplier data into recommendations that improve cost, service, resilience, visibility, and operational performance. The successful candidate brings commercial judgment and analytical capability, plus the curiosity and learning agility to become a purchasing logistician through structured development, supplier engagement, operational exposure, and partnership with experienced logistics professionals.

What You’ll Do

Strategic Logistics Sourcing

  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for assigned logistics categories, lanes, regions, and service providers.

  • Lead or support RFQs, bid events, market analyses, negotiations, award recommendations, and contract implementation.

  • Analyze transportation requirements, network structures, capacity, service levels, accessorials, fuel mechanisms, risk, and total landed cost.

  • Balance cost, quality, service, capacity, flexibility, resiliency, sustainability, and business continuity in category strategies.

  • Maintain the sourcing pipeline, benchmarking data, strategy presentations, budget inputs, and on-time metrics; follow GM purchasing, accounting, and audit requirements.

Supplier, Contract & Business Management

  • Build productive relationships with carriers, rail and ocean providers, trucking and haulaway providers, freight forwarders, yard operators, technology partners, and other logistics suppliers.

  • Monitor performance against contracts, SLAs, cost targets, operational requirements, and compliance standards; lead KPI reviews and corrective actions.

  • Support contracts, renewals, amendments, claims, escalations, commercial issue resolution, and disruption mitigation with legal, finance, operations, and business partners.

  • Evaluate supplier financial health, capacity, safety, quality, cybersecurity, sustainability, and operational risk.

AI/ML-Enabled Freight Analytics

  • Build repeatable data models, dashboards, and tools that improve freight-cost, sourcing, and supplier-performance management.

  • Consolidate and normalize data across modes, lanes, locations, rates, invoices, accessorials, fuel, capacity, service events, and contracts.

  • Apply AI/ML for forecasting, optimization, anomaly detection, data quality, pattern recognition, and decision support to surface sourcing opportunities and reduce manual work.

  • Document data sources, business rules, assumptions, methods, and reusable outputs; validate findings with logistics experts before business use.

  • Apply appropriate governance, access controls, explainability, model-risk practices, and human review to AI-enabled purchasing decisions.

Logistics Learning & Leadership

  • Build working knowledge of rail, ocean, truck, haulaway, yard management, freight forwarding, air, and container services—and how they are planned, purchased, measured, and executed.

  • Connect sourcing decisions to pickup and delivery performance, dwell, transit time, capacity, damage, claims, inventory flow, and customer service.

  • Influence without relying solely on formal authority; establish priorities, simplify work, coach others, and promote ethical, customer-focused, fact-based decision-making

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, logistics, procurement, business, finance, computer science, data science, engineering, AI/ML, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered.

  • 2+ years of relevant experience in purchasing, strategic sourcing, supply chain, logistics, program/product management, account management, engineering/product development, data/analytics, or a related discipline (any internship or co-op experience will not be considered)

  • Experience managing complex data, developing analytical solutions, or applying automation, AI/ML, or other technology to business problems.

  • Strong analytical, commercial, financial, negotiation, project-management, and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret contracts, pricing structures, cost drivers, supplier proposals, and performance data.

  • Data judgment: uses automated tools appropriately, analyzes information objectively, and draws meaningful conclusions.

  • Informative communication and relationship management; communicates clearly with executives, suppliers, operations leaders, technical teams, and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Results focus and workload management; takes initiative, prioritizes critical work, manages multiple workstreams, and delivers on time.

  • Willingness to learn logistics through structured training, site visits, supplier meetings, operational reviews, and collaboration with subject-matter experts.

  • SAP experience or the ability to learn purchasing systems

  • Willingness to travel approximately 5–10% domestically and internationally.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience sourcing transportation, freight forwarding, warehousing, containers, manufacturing services, or other supply chain categories.

  • Experience with logistics management, transportation management, supply chain planning, ERP/procurement systems, business intelligence tools, SQL, Python, cloud data platforms, or machine-learning frameworks.

  • Knowledge of transportation cost structures, rate and tariff models, fuel surcharges, accessorials, lane economics, service-level agreements, capacity and materials management, or contract law as applied to purchasing.

  • Experience developing AI/ML use cases for forecasting, optimization, anomaly detection, classification, natural-language analysis, or decision support.

  • Automotive, manufacturing, commodity, cost-analysis, or engineering-document experience; ability to interpret market trends and regulatory considerations.

  • Master’s degree in supply chain, business administration, data science, computer science, AI/ML, engineering, or a related field.

  • Experience leading cross-functional transformation, digital procurement, or enterprise-scale analytics initiatives.
