Description

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The Role

We are looking for a visionary Staff Program Manager to lead strategic IT programs within GM’s Global Planning, Design, and Product IT organization.

In this highly cross-functional and strategic role, you will drive complex Global Planning, Design, and Product IT initiatives from concept through delivery. You will collaborate closely with engineering, product, and executive teams to bring clarity to ambiguity, foster alignment across diverse stakeholders, and champion delivery excellence. You will shape the roadmap, governance, and change management practices required to drive responsible, scalable, and high-impact transformation across the company.

What You’ll Do

  • Partner with cross-functional leads to define scope, objectives, milestones, deliverables, and measurable success metrics for program initiatives.

  • Champion cross-functional collaboration, connecting dots across stakeholder organizations, including adjacent work activity, pending requirements, leverageable technology assets, potential conflicts, integration across release cadences, to ensure cohesive execution.

  • Manage and coordinate sequencing dependent work to ensure it is understood and on track, and if not on track, determine the best path forward (and execute against it).

  • Identify all risks and potential issues, including early warning signals, mitigation plans, and third-party impacts. Develop and execute mitigation plans for roadblocks, issues, and bottlenecks.

  • Exhibit clear and concise communication to all levels, displaying professionalism through compelling presentations that utilize storytelling and metrics to display program progress and insights. Communicate status, issues, risks, dependencies and impacts effectively and in an unbiased, action-based manner. Provide all relevant metrics of progress, status, and actions.

  • Drive strategic roadmaps with clear capabilities and priorities, ensuring completeness of product requirements and seamless integration across teams.

  • Effectively manage Program scope and prioritization

  • Incorporate best practices in workflows, change management, and engineering lifecycle - identify opportunities to create and streamline processes, enhance efficiency, and optimize impact. This would demonstrate the impact to specific programs, with engineering managers, and at a total PMO level.

  • Apply business acumen and domain expertise to expertly execute programs, blend program management techniques, process, and tools.

  • Ensure change management and governance practices are followed.

  • Serve as the escalation point for all program-related issues, bottlenecks, and risks – owning resolution and ensuring momentum.

  • Ensure engineering work is managed within tools like Jira, maintaining transparency and accountability.

  • Mentor and guide program team members, fostering a culture of excellence, continuous improvement, and operational efficiency.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • 8+ years of experience in program management, technical project/program leadership, or engineering within complex enterprise environments

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, or a related field (or Associate's degree with equivalent practical experience)

  • Demonstrated success leading large-scale, cross-functional programs, ideally in data-centric domains.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive collaboration across technical and business teams to deliver cohesive, high impact outcomes.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.

  • Effective leadership and mentoring skills, with a history of fostering innovation, accountability, and team alignment

  • Deep understanding of program management methodologies and proficiency with tools such as Jira and Confluence

What will give you a competitive edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Advanced degree in Program Management, Computer Science, Engineering, or an MBA with a technical focus

  • Experience managing complex, cross functional programs, including roadmap planning and execution oversight.

  • Experience with applications within Global Planning, Design, and Product IT organization (Team Center, Planisware, Momentum, etc)
