Title: Distinguished Engineer
Shilpa Gulati is a Distinguished Engineer at GM where she leads AI Safety and guides critical enterprise initiatives, including Behavior Safety Assurance for Autonomous Vehicle technology. She brings a rare blend of deep technical expertise in autonomy algorithms and safety assurance alongside strategic business, legal, policy, and regulatory insight. She leverages this unique background to lead company-wide initiatives, driving complex strategic alignment and deploying trustworthy physical AI systems at scale.
Before GM, Shilpa served as Director of Safety and Compliance at Waymo, where, as a member of the Safety Steering Committee, she oversaw the safe scaling of Waymo’s ride-hailing fleet from a single city to millions of miles per week across ten cities. She also led the Road Rule Compliance program and previously headed the Behavior Prediction organization, transforming the traditional software stack into modern transformer-based architecture.
With over 15 years in AV leadership at Bosch, Nuro, Apple, and Waymo, Shilpa’s mission is to make safe autonomous vehicles accessible to all, everywhere.
