Zhaoyin “ZJ” Jia is a Senior Distinguished Engineer in General Motors’ Autonomy organization, where he focuses on advancing AI-driven autonomous vehicle technology from research to production. His technical expertise spans computer vision, 3D perception, machine learning, and the broader autonomy stack. Before GM, ZJ held distinguished engineering and technical leadership roles at Uber, Cruise, DiDi, and Waymo. He has helped building autonomy strategy, high-performing teams, rigorous testing and release processes, and large-scale machine learning based autonomy systems. ZJ earned a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Cornell University and has published research in 3D scene understanding, robotic perception, and object recognition.
