If you want proof that someone can do it all, meet Rachel Steinschneider.
Between innovating at General Motors and scoring goals on the soccer field, Rachel demonstrates that there’s no such thing as succeeding at just one path in life.
During the day, Rachel helps shape the future of smart mobility on the ML Ops team for GM’s Vehicle Camera Services.
After work, Rachel serves as captain of Israel’s National Women’s Soccer Team, showcasing how women’s sports is a force for change.
Rachel is exactly the type of dedicated individual that GM loves to have on staff — combining determination, intelligence, and pure inspiration.
We sat down with Rachel to ask five questions on how her pathways enrich her life and help her empower others.
What do you love most about your job?
The good people. They’re great to talk to and be around.
Why are you passionate about sports?
I believe sports is a unifying force. The power of sports is bringing people together and strengthening them.
What sense of community have you witnessed as captain of your soccer team?
In my national team and club, we have players from all walks of life: Jews, Christians, and Muslims. People from the city and the suburbs, across the entire political spectrum.
Soccer connects us all and helps us realize that, at the end of the day, we are all equal human beings who want to live together and collaborate towards a shared goal.
What’s your message to women who are thinking about taking up sports?
Sports empower. They build character and confidence — something incredibly important for girls and young women. That’s why promoting women’s sports and ensuring girls have equal opportunities to play, just like boys do, is crucial.
Do you have any cultural inspirations you can share with us?
I recommend Lean In by Sheryl Sandberg. It’s a book about women, careers, and leadership. It reminds us that anything is possible when you have the courage and confidence to believe in yourself.
