We’re racing towards a better future: where clean, sustainable energy for all is no longer a dream that we live up to – it’s a part of everyday life. And thanks to GM’s long-lasting collaboration with DTE Energy, our destination is just a street away.
In the latest session of GM’s Geek series on sustainability, we put our partnership with the Detroit-based diversified energy company where it belongs: in the spotlight.
Director of Global Energy Strategy at General Motors Rob Threlkeld sat down with Knox Cameron, Director of Renewable Solutions at DTE Energy, to chat about how we’ve revolutionized the past, how we’re transforming the present, and how we continue to innovate for the future.
So how is the auto industry and the utility sector working together to accelerate decarbonization? These four key takeaways from their discussion can give us some insight.
1.) GM and DTE Energy work together to pioneer sustainable change.
Our collaboration with DTE Energy is a solid, symbiotic relationship with one generating power and the other consuming power to make the products that have helped make Michigan the state it is today.
2.) GM plays a significant role in increasing the overall supply of renewable energy.
GM's commitment to renewable energy includes commissioning an impressive 400 megawatts of new solar power, which feeds directly into DTE's electric grid. This investment not only helps GM reduce its carbon footprint – it helps keep costs down for the population at large, too.
3.) GM and DTE Energy work closely together on renewable energy policy development.
Finding innovative solutions, leveraging existing infrastructure, and removing bottlenecks in the approval process for energy projects is part of our primary mission.
4.) We’ve helped Michigan become a leader in clean energy.
Our collaboration has helped position the Great Lakes State as a vanguard for sustainability partnerships, inspiring future initiatives both in the United States and around the world. Our collaboration is a shining example that paves the way for more accessible and affordable renewable energy solutions.
