At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard —from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features.

Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

We are seeking a Robot/Vision Engineer to lead the programming, troubleshooting, and integration of Fanuc robots, Cognex vision systems, and Matrox vision technology within our manufacturing operations. In this role, you will design, develop, and implement advanced automation solutions that drive efficiency, reliability, and safety. You will work closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure seamless system performance, troubleshoot motion control challenges, and optimize programming for high-performance automation. This role is key to maintaining compliance with industry standards while minimizing downtime and continuously improving our manufacturing processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, program, and implement robotic systems to improve automation and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain Fanuc robot programs, including path creation, tool setup, I/O mapping, and safety configurations.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cognex In-Sight and VisionPro systems for quality assurance, alignment, and defect detection.
  • Program and support Matrox Imaging Library (MIL) or Design Assistant vision solutions.
  • Integrate robotics and vision systems with PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar) and HMI interfaces.
  • Lead the installation, commissioning, and continuous improvement of automation equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on process improvements, capital projects, and new technology deployments.
  • Perform simultaneous engineering activities with mechanical engineers and equipment suppliers.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable safety and regulatory standards (OSHA, NFPA 79, IEC, UL).
  • Support development and testing of advanced robotics and vision solutions, including cutting, joining, handling, laser, and AI-enabled systems.
  • Provide project updates and technical guidance to team members and senior management.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 1 year of experience in industrial automation, robotics, and vision systems.; 3+ years preferred.
  • Proficiency in Fanuc robot programming (TP, KAREL, handling tools, vision guidance).
  • Experience with Cognex In-Sight and VisionPro setup, troubleshooting, and scripting.
  • Experience with Matrox Imaging Library (MIL) or Design Assistant programming.
  • PLC/HMI programming skills (Allen-Bradley/Rockwell preferred).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to collaborate across teams.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Controls Engineering, or a related field.
  • Ability to work effectively in both central engineering and plant environments, including time on the plant floor around operating equipment.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Robot simulation experience (Fanuc ROBOGUIDE).
  • CNC, conveyor, or general automation experience.
  • Previous exposure to deploying vision-guided robotic systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with AI, robotics, and advanced manufacturing controls.
