The Role
The Motorsports Design and Test Propulsion Engineer supports the execution and continued development of Chevrolet’s NASCAR propulsion program. In this role, you will collaborate closely with key partner engine builders and teams, GM Performance and Racing Center engineering, production development, and Virtual Design, Development and Validation (VDDV) to deliver competitive, reliable propulsion systems that advance GM motorsports and non-production initiatives.
What You’ll Do

Serve as the main point of contact to NASCAR key partners for Chevrolet-submitted engine components .

Share technical insights and recommendations with internal GM teams and external partner organizations.

Collaborate effectively across multiple functions, including design, calibration, testing, manufacturing, and VDDV.

Work with suppliers to communicate technical requirements, manage changes, and resolve engineering issues.

Plan, execute, and analyze non-firing driveline tests in support of development and validation activities.

Partner with key race teams to identify performance, reliability, and process improvement opportunities.

Collaborate with the GM VDDV organization to define inputs, boundary conditions, and models needed for analytical studies.

Summarize and communicate test and analysis results to stakeholders, capturing key learnings and best practices for reuse across programs.
What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications)

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.

3–5 years of professional motorsport engineering experience.

Strong understanding of engine development, test, and troubleshooting strategies, including:

Hardware and mechanical/electrical component issues.
-
Control system hardware and software interactions.
-

Demonstrated analytical capability with a structured, data-driven approach to problem solving.

Customer-focused mindset with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
-
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of integrity and work ethic.

Willingness and ability to travel 3–6 times per year (e.g., partner facilities, tests, and race events).

Ability to maintain composure and sound judgment in high-pressure, time-critical situations while meeting engine technical support requirements.

Demonstrated competencies in leadership, communications, problem solving, teamwork, courage, and drive for results .

Evidence of strong character, including integrity, honesty, accountability, and trust .
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
-
Hands-on experience with engine dynamometer testing and calibration .
-
Experience in internal combustion engine design and development , preferably for high-performance or racing applications.

Proficiency with Siemens NX and Teamcenter .
-
Familiarity with engine management systems and calibration workflows.
-
Experience with motorsports data acquisition, logging, and analysis tools.
-
Working knowledge of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.

Exposure to hybrid powertrain systems or high-voltage electrification technologies.

The selected candidate will be required to travel <25% for this role.
