Work Arrangement
This role is categorized as hybrid, which means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least three times per week.
This role is based at Global Propulsion Systems, Warren Tech Center; however, the selected candidate is expected to spend the majority of their time on-site at our manufacturing facilities in Defiance, OH; Saginaw, MI; and Toluca, MX.
The selected candidate will be required to travel 75% or more.
The Role
In this role, you will lead one or more engineering areas across multiple manufacturing facilities. You will be responsible for a team of engineers focused on defining and specifying how Semi-Permanent Mold and Precision Sand cast products are manufactured.
You will also play a key role in the planning, procurement, fabrication, installation, and ongoing support of systems, equipment, and tooling required for complex, specialized, and unique manufacturing applications.
The primary responsibility of this Engineering Group Manager (EGM) is to lead a team of engineers responsible for executing the casting manufacturing strategy for Prismatic Components across Transmissions and Engines . The EGM provides leadership and direction to the Process/Tooling team , supporting a team of 9–14 engineers .
This team has significant opportunities to apply the latest technologies across both product and process for current programs, while leveraging lessons learned from global launches to improve the quality and efficiency of future systems through the Bill of Process (BOP) and Bill of Equipment (BOE) .
Work is performed in a highly collaborative team environment with daily interaction across Product Engineering (PE) , Program System Engineers (PSEs) , Manufacturing Engineers (MEs) , and Manufacturing Operations Teams .
What You’ll Do

Lead, coach, and develop engineering and operations professionals by setting clear expectations, providing ongoing feedback, and supporting career growth

Develop, monitor, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) and other operational metrics

Drive cross-site read-across of best practices, lessons learned, and standardized tools and processes

Lead the Launch Wall process through Manufacturing Validations, Build Plans, PPAP, and related engineering procedures

Manage the testing and installation of equipment, tooling, and technologies both on-site and off-site

Lead investigations and analysis of casting defects to drive root cause resolution and continuous improvement

Oversee process, tooling, and equipment testing, troubleshooting, implementation, and optimization
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop direct reports; 5+ years of supervisory or people leadership experience preferred
-
Demonstrated technical knowledge of foundry processes and the ability to apply casting concepts in a manufacturing environment
-
5+ years of leadership experience in Low Pressure Die Casting, Precision Sand, Semi-Permanent Mold , or similar manufacturing processes, including tooling, process, quality, and project management

5+ years of budget management experience , including operating and/or capital budgets

Basic knowledge of Magma , Flow-3D , or similar simulation software
-
Basic knowledge of NX , CATIA , or other 3D design software

Working knowledge of aluminum chemistry, heat treat, and metallurgical processes

Demonstrated understanding of mechanical concepts related to machine design, process equipment, tooling, and secondary post-processing

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, Computer Science , or a related field, or equivalent experience
What Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)

Training in aluminum metallurgy

Prior experience in Low Pressure Die Casting, Precision Sand, or Semi-Permanent Mold

Prior experience with injection molds

Prior experience with castings or giga/structural castings

Training in flow simulation tools such as Magma or Flow-3D
