Work Arrangement
This role is a hybrid work arrangement. If you live within a 50-mile radius of Austin, Warren, or Sunnyvale, you are expected to report to that location at least three times per week. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits. Remote candidates may still be considered.
The Role
General Motors is seeking a Designer to expand our design system team. As a design system Designer, you will collaborate with UI designers, developers and platform teams to craft components, systems and processes that supports design excellence across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate will have a passion for design, details and systematic thinking.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborate closely with team members to craft world-class design systems for our mobile, vehicle and web products with a focus on in vehicle.
- Create patterns, components, design tokens and grid systems that work across multiple scenarios as part of a system
- Craft systematic solutions to support design system implementation across vehicle, mobile and web
- Work closely with design and development to bridge the gap
- Support design work that balances craft, usability, and business goals.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
- Bachelor’s degree in HCI, Graphic Design, Visual Design, Interaction Design, Product Design, Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- 3+ years of professional experience in graphic design with a focus on typography, information design, brand systems, digital design, or design systems
- Strong portfolio with work samples showcasing in vehicle design expertise in user experience design and/or UI development
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop, as well as UI tools such as Figma
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-oriented mindset
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
- Experience with in vehicle technologies and design
- Experience contributing to design systems across multiple platforms
- High understanding of Figma as a design system tool
- Familiarity with front-end implementation and design handoff best practices
- Portfolio examples that show clarity in information design, typography, and systems-based problem solving
