The Role:
The Supplier Quality (SQ) Warranty Engineer is responsible for managing supplier-related warranty performance and driving quality improvements for vehicle propulsion systems across the supply base. This role focuses on identifying root causes of warranty issues, ensuring corrective actions are effectively implemented, and maintaining strong supplier relationships to uphold GM’s supplier quality warranty standards.
The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background in automotive propulsion systems and electrification, exceptional problem solving skills, and the ability to collaborate closely with suppliers and other organizations within GM to resolve root causes of warranty issues.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

Support Propulsion Systems – Supplier Warranty Action Team (SWAT) through onsite supplier auditing to drive quality and QPR improvements.

Leverage advanced data mining techniques to identify trends and patterns in warranty dashboards to lead investigations, training, and process improvements.

Follow-up on identified issues with Supplier Quality Engineers, Global Commodity Leads and Suppliers to drive lessons learned and read across globally (GRA Process)

Focus on identifying root causes of warranty issues with support from SQEs, ensuring corrective actions are effectively implemented while maintaining GM quality standards.

Drive warranty review process to engage SWAT Engineers, Global Commodity Leads and Global Process Leads to proactively address high-risk / top focus suppliers.

Engage directly with warranty parts return center, supporting reviews, driving action with Supplier Quality Engineers and Suppliers on open part returns requiring analysis.

Attend Quality Deep Dives, CPIT, QRD, and Warranty reviews ensuring Supplier Quality representation on topics, directing PRTS issues to engineers for resolution/support.

Work with Data Analysts/IT to improve datasets available to the organization, providing insights that drive action in emerging warranty problems.

Collaborate with Global Commodity Leads and SMT Managers to provide feedback on Supplier and Commodity performance, feeding valuable insight into future sourcing decisions.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, Manufacturing, Welding, Plastics, Materials, Chemical preferred) or an equivalent Technical Degree such as Applied Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics is acceptable.
- Minimum 5 years experience in supplier quality, quality, engineering and/or manufacturing or related field.
- Ability to travel up to 50% (domestic and international), the successful candidate must have a current and legally recognized driver's license.
- Strong understanding of propulsion system components (IC Engines, transmissions, electric motors, inverters, battery packs) and electrification technologies (charging systems, power electronics).
- Experience with Supplier Auditing. Process Controls, QMS and/or IATF.
- Proficient in print reading and interpretation (GD&T), part measurement, gage design and function.
- Proficient knowledge of manufacturing and assembly plant processes, procedures, tooling, equipment, and facilities.
- Demonstrated knowledge of probability, statistical quality control and design of experiments.
- Proficient ability to investigate quality problems and to apply sound technical judgment to develop potential solutions.
- Proficient ability to manage multiple projects and lead diverse cross functional teams simultaneously.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work independently and effectively with others.
- Strong oral, written and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- RedX technical problem solving and Six Sigma Certification is a plus.

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.
The selected candidate will be required to travel on a regular basis (25-50%) for this role.
This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
