The Role

As the Contiguous Stamping Shift Leader, you will provide leadership for Safety, People, Quality, Responsiveness, Cost, and Environment (SPQRCE) for the total press shop. You will be responsible for providing direction and assistance to salaried Group Leaders.

What You'll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Lead shift startup, end-of-shift review, and cross-shift communication to ensure alignment on priorities, issues, and production status.

  • Review customer requirements, production plans, inventory, and material flow to adjust schedules and maintain operational performance.

  • Monitor staffing, attendance, overtime, shift preferences, and labor equalization to support production needs and payroll accuracy.

  • Assign manpower and resources across press lines and support areas, including inspection, training, metal finish, and other critical operations.

  • Respond to Andon calls, production issues, and abnormal conditions by removing barriers, escalating concerns, and driving countermeasures.

  • Maintain a strong floor presence through routine walks, shift meetings, mid-shift reviews, and follow-up on action items.

  • Support safety through audits, observation tours, startup messaging, incident follow-up, and compliance with plant safety expectations.

  • Support quality by monitoring scrap, containment, customer concerns, and adherence to process and product quality standards.

  • Drive equipment reliability and throughput by improving uptime, preventing repeat breakdowns, supporting TPM, and partnering with maintenance on corrective actions.

  • Lead and reinforce BPD, SPQRC, standardized work, and GM-GMS requirements across all shifts.

  • Coach, mentor, and develop group leaders and team leaders through regular reviews, accountability, recognition, and performance support.

  • Support employee relations and labor agreement compliance, including vacation approvals, grievance follow-up, union coordination, and communication with represented and salaried teams.

  • Maintain workplace organization, required documentation, shift notes, and budget/cost control expectations.

  • Report shift and operational status to leadership and collaborate with production control, maintenance, customers, and area management to meet business needs.

  • Be flexible to rotate shifts and support plant operations as required.

Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience

  • Ability to work rotating shifts

  • Stamping Experience

What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):

  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience

  • Leadership experience

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Highly developed oral & written communication skills

  • High level of interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of basic stamping and manufacturing processes

  • High level of analytical ability

  • Knowledge of and coaching experiences in Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS)

  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area

  • Experience with Kronos, UKG, or similar labor and payroll systems.

  • Experience with BPD reviews, layered audits, standardized work, and continuous improvement routines.

  • Experience working in a unionized manufacturing environment.

On-site: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Lansing Stamping on a full-time basis.
