Description
The Design & Release Engineer (DRE) – Aftertreatment Hardware is responsible for the design, development, validation, and production release of exhaust aftertreatment hardware including catalytic converters, exhaust particulate filters, catalyst washcoat, catalyst substrates, attachment brackets, and heat shields. This role owns components from concept through launch, working closely with cross-functional teams and global aftertreatment suppliers to deliver high-quality, production-ready designs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own end-to-end design and release of exhaust aftertreatment components
- Lead PDT meetings for assigned components
- Lead DFMEA, DVP&R, validation, and PPAP activities with suppliers
- Serve as primary technical interface with exhaust aftertreatment suppliers for feasibility, tooling, validation, and launch
- Support virtual and physical builds (prototypes, validation, plant, launch)
- Drive issue resolution for component performance and durability issues
- Manage engineering changes with cost, mass, and timing impact assessment
- Identify and execute VA/VE opportunities without compromising performance or durability
- Ensure integration with interfacing components including exhaust manifolds, exhaust sensors, and cold end exhaust pipes
- Represent aftertreatment components in PAPIR/VAPIR, DSE meetings, design reviews, etc.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical, or Aeronautical Engineering is required
- Minimum 7+ years of related experience
- High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
- Time management skills to meet agreed upon customer deliverables, able to manage multiple projects
- Knowledge of drawing GD&T, dimensional stack-ups
- Ability to seek and integrate knowledge from diverse sources required to perform tasks
- Experience working with Tier-1 suppliers on design, tooling, and launch
- Demonstrated problem-solving and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Engine component design experience
- OEM or Tier-1 launch experience
- Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, DFMEA/PFMEA, and automotive quality systems
- Ability to manage multiple components and programs in a fast-paced environment
Hybrid: This position will require an employee to be on-site 3 days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).
